Some  of you might remember that my father nearly died back in October but somehow managed to get better. Unfortunately his kidneys have failed again and the doctors have said there is  nothing they can do :( I am off to Salzburg (this where he lives) on Monday to see him.  His girlfriend reckons that he is just waiting for me to go and see him before he dies.  He can no longer get out of bed and has to be pushed around in a wheelchair.  He isn't eating any more and sleeps for 19 hours out of 24 and unfortunately he is no longer with it.  Life seems so unfair.  He fought so hard the first time round and now it has happened again.

Apart from my oh and kids he is the only relative I have left and I will miss him so so much. I am dreading going over to say goodbye. I am a very emotional person and am not coping very well with this.

Please say a pray for him for the end to come quickly.  Thanks

(((((Big Hug)))) My thoughts are with you, when my father was dying, my mums words of wisdom were try not to cry infront of him as then you can't talk and say all the things you want, even if your dad is not really coherehant anymore some things still register and if you can say that you love him and talk to him a little tell him how proud you are of him, believe me it will help you a lot.

Most importantly don't hold things in, try to smile and be happy infront of your dad, but please make sure you cry and let all of your emotions out when at home that is very important too.

Loosing a parent is one of the hardest things we all have to face, he lives on in you and your children that is what you need to focus on, and when you think of him try not to think of your loss but on him and his strenghths and happy times, I found that made thinking of my dad to bring a smile rather than a tear.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry, what an emotional and sad time for you. Enjoy the time you with him, you'll get to tell him how much he means to you. I hope he has a peaceful and comfortable end. Big hugs, sending some emotional strength to help you stay strong for him.

Have come back from Austria today.  My visit was a very emotional one.  It was lovely to spend time with my father .  The day I arrived he was quite lucid and seemed to know who I was but he could not talk.  Yesterday he was asleep for most of today and this morning he was quite with it for a while and seemed to know who I was and his girlfriend.  About half an hour later he went blind and went into a very deep sleep with a rattly chest.  I said my good byes, told him how much I loved him and how much my children loved him.   He sadly died at 3.20 this afternoon as I was flying back to the uk :(.  I am sure he waited for me to go.  He never wanted me to see my mother and sister when they died and I am sure he did not want me to see him dead either.

The last three days have been the hardest in my life but I am so glad I went.  I got to hold his hand and told him I loved him so so much.

My father was one in a million and I will miss him for the rest of my life.  He was the best father in the world :(

You got to say your goodbyes and he is now at peace.
Feel happy for the time you had and he loved you enough to hang on for you to say your goodbyes.
Take Care
Lea.

I'm so sorry. {{{{{hug}}}}} I remember the terrible sense of loss when my own father died 20 years ago, and how it seemed that the part of me who was 'daddy's little girl' died too. The physical pain was intense. I'm so glad you got the chance to say goodbye, because so many people don't. Of course you'll always miss him; that's because you loved him. Be kind to yourself.
- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 28.02.07 22:46 UTC
I am so sorry Melissa, but I am pleased that you saw him to say your 'Goodbyes'.
- By Isabel Date 28.02.07 22:48 UTC
I'm so sorry it has been such a tough time for you but glad you seem to have achieved what was important to you both and I reckon that has to be a comfort for you as time moves on.
- By Harley Date 28.02.07 23:24 UTC
You have had a difficult and emotional time but your dad is at peace now and, most of all, you got the chance to tell him how much he meant to you which will have meant the world to him.

Thinking of you at this difficult time.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts.  I am not coping too well at the moment and am not really sleeping.  I find the mornings the worst as when you first wake up you forget about everything and then it hits you so hard :(  Have been put on anti-depressants for a little while so that I can cope with the day to day life with my kids (who are being very sweet).  I want their routine to be the same
