I know a Bob Gregory who is a well-respected judge of dalmatians. Would it be the same man?

think it might be.  he is an all round judge and on searching "Robert Gregory" there's no links that come up to previous judging appointments, unlike with most judges :)

If it is the same man, he judged dalmatians (he's a long-standing breed club member) at Crufts 2002.

If you google 'Bob Gregory judge' you get several results. He's Chairman of Manchester Dog Show Society, has judged the POTY competition ... what is it you want to know about him? He's a fair man who knows his stuff and judges the dog-end of the lead! ;) :D

"He's a fair man who knows his stuff and judges the dog-end of the lead! "

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo that's an urban myth about fair judges started by a chap name of H.C. Andersen! ;)
