Hi, I have a dilema, My friends dog is about 4-5weeks into her pregnancy
Well the dilema is i have never owned a dog that is a picky eater so i have no idea what to advice her.

Her dog will not eat her food or puppy food the only thing she will eat is Cooked tripe from the butchers, I have no idea if this alone is enough for her, She also likes hearts and liver and kidney.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Other than not eating her dog food she is happy normal dog....

P.S all pups have homes just so this is not looked at as advertising a litter....

For a long period during her pregnancy, one of my bitches physically couldn't stomach meat. She'd be hungry, put her head in the bowl, and you could virtually see her turn green. I fed her good quality food of whatever type she could stomach at the time (mainly only rice pudding and scrambled egg for some time), until she could eat normally again, and she whelped a healthy litter of 8.

Perhaps your friend could try adding some pasta or rice while she won't eat the normal food?

I would go along with that, Lily Mc. I had a very picky eater and gave her a bland diet for the latter half of her pregnancy. I know what I was like when I was pregnant. The smell of coffee was enough to send me off to the loo  ;) so why not dogs too? Mind you, I would also do anything for the smell of newly laid tarmac

Thanks for the info i will pass it on. Like i say she will eat cooked tripe as if its going out of fashion, But i don't think that alone would be enuff for her and her developing pups

Again thanks

Also try boiled fish and rice - I sometimes think they go for the smellier things.

As she's OK with meat, Naturediet or similar may also be a good option, warmed for a few seconds in the microwave?

You could put some minced raw chicken in with the tripe now and again, if she would eat that, that would make a change ?
My friends' girl went into 'fussy eating mode' in the later stages, all she would eat was chicken wings, loads of them! And she went on to have a fantastic healthy litter of 11 :) As long as she was eating something that's all that matters :)

If off food all together I have found that sardines in tomato sauce (sauce left on) gets them all eating again. Minced beef, cooked, shredded beef made as a week broth is also good.
