Topic Dog Boards / General / Ferry to Rosslare

Hello - was wondering if anyone has taken their dog across to Rosslare?  Are you able to visit your dog in the kennels on the car deck?  And is a dog likely to get sea-sick?

I think it depends upon the individual ferry company
Some insist the dog must stay in the car or in a kennel and you are not allowed below deck

I've taken mine over on the ferry and the Seacat (and it was ROUGH).  I left them in the car and they were fine.  We weren't allowed to visit them.

Thanks, both of you.  I personally hate ferries and don't like the idea of leaving Molly in the car on her own, but OH wants to visit family in Ireland.

If she's used to being in the car and being left in it alone for a while, I'm sure she'll be fine.  Better than being left in kennels for a week or two!

We took a pup over on a ferry and they let us take the pet carrier on the deck with us.

That's good to know - we can just about (!) carry her in the carrier, and at least she can be with us.  I'd never leave Molly in kennels, if it came to that I wouldn't go on holiday and I couldn't possibly enjoy myself!

I know that feeling, Rosemarie!  Either myself or my partner stays at home to look after the dogs, or a friend stays to look after them.

When we went to vist hubbys family in Ireland went by Rosslaire too as foot passengers, we had three toy dogs  with us, one in a carrier which they didnt see as it was like a luggage bag and two 3 1/2lb which i was carrying in a pouch they said would have to go down in a kennel, i argued and said i wouldnt as they were so small they could have died of the car exhuast, so i just walked away and took all three onto the floor with a small lounge bit only two chairs and right near to the door that goes out on deck and kept them hidden for the 3 hours or so,,never again!!!!!!!!!
