Im doing some research into this as I would like to consider feeding my GSD a raw food diet. I wonder if any other GSD owners can offer any advice?
How much do you feed?
What do you feed?
How long you have been doing it for and what are the results?
Any difference to behaviour?
Does your GSD prefare it?
And any other info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Dale

If you do a search on this site you should find a huge amount of info on barf, I dont think a GSD would need any special requirements because of the breed.
Also do a search on google using barf or raw meaty bones and you will find all the info you need, my advise is go for it your dogs will thank you.

Hi Dale
I have a GSD who always had a loose tummy, I switched to half raw & half a dried kibble diet. Search for posts from Chinablue (she gave me some good advice feeding raw to GSD'S). I feed chicken wings, breast of lamb & lamb ribs. Zak looks a lot better & I have to say that his delicate stomach seems to have gone altogether. He may go into kennels occasionaly & I am not sure about kennels feeding a raw diet, so that's why I haven't made the switch all together.
Hi Beardy
A friend of mine who feeds raw has had to kennel hers a couple of times. She just bagged up individual meals for the three of them, labelled and froxen for each dog for each meal. The kennel just had to defrost and feed. She didn't get any reduction for providing all the food though!

HI i have just started my gsd on barf and she loves it no more loose stools or looking in the bin for extras as a rule of thumb what i have read is roughly 2lb of food i make this up with raw meaty bones pulped veg, minced chicken, minced tripe, sardines, (heart and liver but only once a week ) lamb bones any meaty off cut that your butcher has and mine saves them and pick them up every other day to be honest the world is your oyster. You will get lots of great advice off this site but it is worth investing in some good books IB give your dog a bone, Tom lonsdale raw meaty bones and kymythy Schultz does have a fantastic book Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet well worth a read. My girl is looking fantastic on this i am so glad i made the change as it is a fantastic learning process on how to feed your dog naturally karen

Hi
I fed my GSD Barf and he loved it. I lost him to cancer last year so I am a bit vaugue about the amounts. He ate loads of chicken, tripe, mince of all kinds. Liver, kidneys although he wasnt that fussed about the offal I had to gently cook it so it wasnt totally raw. Rabbit when i could get it. pork, turkey lamb complete with bones.
I didnt see any difference in his behaviour but he put on loads of weight. Up till he started on the raw food he was very picky and had a very sensitive tum. If he ate to much cooked chicken he would have terrible runs for about 3/4 days. Any weight he put on instantly drained of him again. But he loved the raw and would eat as much as he could get.
