our 20 month old Dalmatian has over the past few weeks started to bring up bile first thing in the morning. He has done this now on about 5 seperate occasions, but not on 2 days running. He starts to really gag then brings up a small amount of bright yellow/orange bile. He then has his breakfast and is fine for the rest of the day. does anyone have any idea why he may be doing this?
thanks
Chrissy

Tis is usually because he is hungry.A lot of dogs do it if they get too hungry, including mine. The solution could be to either feed a bit earlier, give something extra the night before, or give a few biscuits first thing.
thats great thanks i had thought of that but wasnt sure. He is being fed at 5.30pm and then again at 8.30 am, perhaps i will move his 5.30pm feed to a little later and see if this helps.
many thanks
Chrissy
One of my RRs did this some years ago, and I solved it by giving her a bit of her food ration last thing at night.
What is the latest anyone feeds their dog? I moved mine to 6pm and feed 2/3 of daily ration instead of 1/2 at that feed because of this problem but it still very occasionally occurs.
How much do you give at bed-time please ridgielover - just a handful?

My girls get fed after thier walk in the morning at about 10am then again after our evening meal at about 7.30pm. They have a couple of bonio's then at bedtime about 11pm and we very rarely have bile. Used to some time ago but now they know breakfast is a later meal it seems to have solved this problem.
Trouble is, if I gave my 7kg dog a couple of Bonios she wouldn't have bile she'd have obesity! :-D
Feeding a portion of food ration seems a bit of a pain (it's remembering to leave some in the scoop at tea-time) but I think it's probably what I should be doing.
It was some years ago now, but I think I just gave her about 1/5 of her ration (it was simple then as I was feeding dry food) and I gave it to her about 11 ish. I feed mine twice a day, usually first thing, then between 5 and 6.
Hope that helps.
