Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Do bitches mark territory ?
- By LorraineB [gb] Date 06.09.02 20:49 UTC
We have just turned our house back from holiday flats so the dogs now have the run of the full house for first time, Annie our Akita keeps going into all the different rooms and doing small wees in each one, am assuming she is marking them and if so please how do I stop it, have never had a bitch do this before, any advice appreciated

Yes - bitches can display some really masculine habits. I have a friend who's bitch cocks her leg where my dogs wee and then scarifies the lawn with her back legs afterwards :( Weird dog!
If she's only just started doing it though and it's out of character she may well have picked up a urine infection so it would be worth getting her checked out for that first.

My Beardie bitch does this as do several others owned by friends, not in house but ouside esp where another dog has gone. I would think she may be marking her territory and it will stop but it won't hurt to get her checked anyway. My bitch scrapes ground and also humps my leg if she gets the chance she's 12 1/2 so I think these are just habits as she is very healthy only been to vets for vaccinations

Spayed bitches mark territory on walks, property, etc... -- also scratch. But mine have never done it inside :( :( :(

Personally, I think it could be another issue other than 'marking'. Not sure what, but something about letting her loose for the first time around the house could have something to do with it. How old is she?
toodles

btw, just noticed that you changed it from holiday flats--- could another dog stayed there and had "accidents" that she is now responding to?

Hi, Annie is 10 months old and entire, she's a bit of an oddity being home bred and totally hand reared, we stopped taking dogs into the flats three years ago due to our Rottie getting so upset and carpets have been renewed since then, no problems with waterworks as fine otherwise and since she has marked most areas ( big sighs ) she seems to have stopped, fingers crossed
