May have to do it over a few posts as there is too much for one post and too much for me to type in one go.  You will need stop watch prefrably or something to time your dog.

1st test (Observational Learning)

Select a time of day when you would not normally walk your dog.  Make sure your dog is awake and in the same room.  Silently pick up your coat, keys and dogs lead.  Stay where you are and do not move toward the door.  If your dog runs to the door or comes directly too you indicating excitement or interest Score 5.  If not move directly to the door and stop.  If he comes to you in anticipation of a walk or going out score 4.
If not place your hand on the door knob and turn it back and forth to make a noise.  If your dog comes to you score 3.  If he pays some attention during these proceedures but does not come to you or the door score 2.  If dog pays no attention score 1.

Test 2 (Problem Solving)

You need an empty can about the size of a soup can ( I used plastic tumblers), your dogs favourite treat.

Show your dog the treat and let him sniff it, then put the treat on the ground and cover with the open end of the can. Start timing.  If he knocks can away and gets the treat within 5 secs score 5.  If in 5-15 secs score 4. In 15-30 secs score 3. In 30-60secs score 2.  If your dog sniffs round the can but doesn't get the treat within 1 min score 1.  If dog makes no effort score 0
I actually used several beakers with food under only one and moved them about but she done it just as quickly.

Test 3 (Attention and Enviromental Learning)

While your dog is out of the house either you or a helper should rearrange furniture in a room familiar to the dog e.g bring more chairs in, pull sofa in centre of the room etc etc.  Try to make at least 5 things different in the room.
Now let dog in the room while you stand quietly.  If your dog notices something different within 15 secs and starts to sniff and explore score 5.  If he notices and starts to sniff within 15-30 secs score 4. In 30=60 secs score 3.  If he seems to notice a difference but does not explore it score2.   If a minute passes and your dog has still taken no notice score 1.

Test 4  (Problem Solving)

You need a large bath towel or small blanket.  Make sure your dog is awake and reasonably active.  Let them sniff the towel, then with one swift smooth movement throw the towel over your dog so his head and front shoulders are completely covered. Watch silently.  If the dog frees himself in 15 secs or less score 5. 15-30 secs score 4. 30-60secs score 3. 1-2 mins score 2.  If not removed after 2 mins score 1.

Test 5 (Social Learning)

Pick a time when your dog is sitting about 8 feet from you but has not explicitly been told to sit and stay. Then stare intently at his face. When your dog looks at you count silently to 3 and then smile broadly.
If he comes to you with any tail wagging score 5. If comes slowly or only part way with no tail wagging score 4.  If he stands or rises from sitting position but does not move toward you score 3.  If your dog moves away from you score 2 If he pays no attention score 1.

Test 6  (Problem Solving)

This is similar to test 2 but a little more difficult it demands a bit more cleverness in manipulating objects.
You need a hand towel or a tea towel.  Show your dog a treat, place it on the floor while the dog watches it and throw the tea towel over it.  If he retrieves the treat and eats it within 15 secs or less score 5. 15-30 secs score 4. 30-60 secs score 3. 1-2 mins score 2. If he tries but gives up score 1.  If he doesn't even try within 2 mins score 0.

Part 2 and final score interpretations to follow soon (phew)

Thank you :) I bet your typing speed improves by the time you have posted the whole test :D

Not entirely accurate for my dog. He doesn't get excited and run to the door for walks if I'm standing there with his lead saying come on, we're going walkies. He doesn't get excited over anything much, he's kind of a mellow and relaxed boy. They need a "am I bovered category" :-D

PART 2

Test 7 (Short term memory.)

This test should be followed immeadiatly by test 8.  Use a treat that does not have a strong odour. If your dog will not reliably sit and stay on his own get a helper to hold him. Sit dog in centre of a room and show him the treat with no sound place the treat in a corner of the room.  Lead the dog out of the room walk him in a small circle then bring him back to the centre of the room.  Let dog go and start timing, if dog goes directly to the treat score 5.  If he systematiccaly sniffs round the edge of the room and then finds it score 4. If dog searches randomly but finds the treat within 45 secs score 3.  If the dog appears to be trying to find it but hasn't after 45 secs score 2.  If your dog makes no effort to find it score 1.

Test 8 (Long Term Memory)

Set up is the same as test 7 but make sure you place treat in a different corner of the room. Take dog out of the room and keep him out for 5 mins, then return dog to the centre of the room and let him go.  If dog goes directly to the treat score 5.  If he goes to the corner the first treat was but then quickly goes to the correct corner score 4.  If dog snifs round the room and finds it within 45 secs score 2.  If the dog appears to try and find it but hasn't after 45 secs score 1.  If dog makes no effort score 0

Test 9  (Problem Solving And Manipulation Ability)

You need a piece of board and a few books to make a low table that your dogs head can't fit under but his paws can.  Weigh board down with extra books so he can't move it.  You may find a low upholstered chair works as well.
Show your dog the treat and let him sniff it, place it under the made table start timing and encourage your dog to get it.  If dog uses his paws and retrieves the treat within 60 secs or less score 5.  In 1-3 mins score 4.  If the dog uses its muzzle only and fails to get the treat or uses its paws and still has not retrieved the treat within after 3 mins score 3.  If dog doesn't use his paws or simply sniffs or gives one or two tries and gives up score 2.  If after 3 mins your dog has made no effort score 1

Test 10  (Language Comprehension)

Your dog should be settled and at least 8foot or more from you.  In the voice tones you usually use to call your dog, call "Refrigerator"  If the dog shows some responsivness to come score 3.  If the dog does not come call "Movies" in the same tone.  If your dog comes score 2.  If your dog has still not responded call his name and say come. If your dog comes or moves toward you score 5.  If not call dogs name a second time if he comes score 4.  If not score 1.

Test 11  (Process Of Learning)  This is to see how well your dog learns a new command.  The command will be "front".  You will need your dog on a lead sitting beside you, the aim is to get him to on this command get up, take a few steps forward turn and face you and sit directly in front of you.
Have plenty of treats and praise ready.
Sit dog beside you and clearly give the command front accompanied by a hand signal (which could be slapping both your front legs)  If you already use this command then change it to "face me" or something similar the dog doesn't know.  The gently guide your dog into the front position by stepping one foot forward while leading your dog forward then step back again, turning your dog to come back in front of you, then get him to sit, praise and give a treat.
Place your dog back beside you and practice twice more.  Then try giving the command pause for a second then with minimal or no movement of your leg move your dog to the front position.  Repeat one more time.
Begin the test now.  Give the command but do not attempt to move the dog physically.  If the dog moves to the front no matter how sloppy score 6 and consider the test over.  If no movement after 5 seconds treat is as a training session  and guide your dog into place treat and praise.  Practise another 10 times and then perform another test.  If your dog performs the manoeuvre this time score 5.  If not practice 10 more times and repeat test.  If dog completes it without any assistance score 3..  If dog comes round the front but doesn't sit score 2.  If your dog gets up at the front command but doesn't move round score 1.  If dog remains sitting and doesn't move score 0

LOL! I just tried Test 6 with Piglet. He sniffed the teatowel, looked up at me, sat, gave a paw, looked at the cloth again, then gnawed at the teatowel and ate the treat! I have a teatowel with a hole in it!! :D :D

Edit: LOL again! Just tried test 2. He picked up the plastic pot, took it to his bed, destroyed it, then went back for the treat!

He seems to be a lateral thinker!

Number 4...the one with the towel/blanket made me crease with laughter. I threw one over Tansy a couple of weeks back, who wore it like a cloak for around half an hour! She went upstairs, and came back...it was still on her. She looked as if to say 'Don't I look pretty?'  :-) There again, she is a poser lol.

Sorry for the delay in posting the other part and test score results but after thinking I was getting over the armed raid at my work in January we have had 2 more attempts on Sat and to say I am not thinking straight or able to concentrate is an understatement.  I will get the rest done as soon as I can focus myself.  Sorry again to dissapoint anyone but we will get there.

Whenever you're ready. :) Hope you start feeling more relaxed soon.

Sorry that you've gone through such a shocking ordeal - hope you are feeling less shaky now.

But if you think I'm giving my lot intelligence tests (Vinnie and Loki in particular) after this afternoon - you'll have another think coming!

Instead, I'm going to train them to put wet washing in the tumble drier, and fold the stuff from the drier.    Next lesson will be ....hanging out sheetw & towels on the washing line :D

Hope you are feeling better soon :)

Harley also tried to eat the tea towel :D I was very impressed when he got the "front" command after two goes :)   So now I know how quickly he can learn there is no excuse for not responding to first/second/third.....................ninety-seventh  recall at the beach :D

we are having great fun with these :)
