I own a small German shepherd cross and a terrier cross which are both very nice natured, and i am very interested in buying a yorkie puppy, i have been told the bitches are a little bigger than the dogs, so i thought that would be best with our group. My question is are yorkies suitable to go with med size dogs, as i wouldnt her to get hurt when they played together.

Also can you give me an idea what a yorkie bitch puppy would cost.

Looking forward to any replies.

Hi I'm not sure as its safe to assume that bitches are bigger than dogs as I think a lot depends on breeding. I have 2 yorkies and my bitch is considerably smaller than my dog. I have in the past had yorkies with a lab and at the moment I have 2 yorkies and a carn terrier and they are fine together, however I would say a lot of care is needed while the yorkie is a pup as they "think" they are big dogs and they could get hurt (the same with any new pup I suppose). Once they are all settled and used to each other I'm sure it will be fine. My dog and cairn play together my bitch looks on barking and generally telling them off but of course they ignore her and she eventually joins in!!!

I know many many people with a big dog and a Yorkie and the Yorkie is always in charge.

For some reason GSD and Yorkie as house-mates is common.

I also know people who have a Yorkie with Springers and Labs.

I wouldn't!! all terries are a little yappy and nip when angry or playing.
I had a yorkie once with a larger dog the yorkie would bark and run round the bigger dogs legs
barking and nipping. It drove the larger dog mad. Fortunatley the larger dog was very layed back.
As ever thing has a breaking point. its, a gamble!

All terriers are not a little yappy and nip when angry are playing, and Yorkies are not terriers in the true sense.

Try telling your average Yorkie it isn't a terrier! :-D
