does anyone have freeview and can you recommend a decent box to buy at a reasonable price ?  My sky has gone belly up and although I have managed to get the engineer to come out for free (I told them I wanted to cancel cos they were going to charge me £65 for a visit ) anyway, ive decided that I may as well get a free view box and get rid of the montly payments.  Was just wondering on peoples experiences of them and which ones were the best as ive heard some dont pick up a very good signal

Claire you won't need to get a Freeview box, you can still get the free channels through your Sky dish.  You do however need to get a card from them.  Phone them up, give notice and tell them you want a card.

Oh right, and does this card give you channels that the freeview box would? do you have to pay for it ?

and I would have to get my sky box fixed first I assume?

I guess that depends on what's wrong with it Claire.

Do a Google search for Freesat viewing card and it will give you some info.  I gather it costs £20 from Sky.  You do get more free channels via satellite than you do through aerial.

YOu can pick up second hand sky boxes on ebay for less than £20.

are you sure your Sky box has def packed up as there is not a lot to go wrong with them.

What are the symptoms?

Its showing no signal on any channel, started off just one or two channels now its the whole lot.

Sky man has been out today, changed the reciever thingy on my dish but says it is the box, says he  will be back tomorrow with new box.  There has been no mention of payment so im assuming its free - if not they can take it back !!!
