while young pups will sleep help their weight gain as much as feeding for instance some are still sleeping whilst others are wanting milk off mum do i leave them sleep or wake them up also means mum doesnt get as much of a break in between

I don't interfere. Mum will move if she gets fed up and the hungrier pups will be first in line when she goes back in ;) At 2 weeks her instinct should be to stay with the pups most of the time. Some pups could just be comfort suckling anyway. Once the eyes are fully open and they start to move around mum should start to get fed up a bit more.

I don't interfere unless I have to. I weigh them daily for the first 2 weeks so I can see immediately if one of them isn't gaining as much as it should be. I usually make sure that one has access to the best teats. I they are all gaining weight I wouldn't interfere or wake them up if others are feeding, some are just guzzlers or comfort feeders and some only take what they need.

Agree totally with other posts, do not interfere with pups feeding. If there is a smaller one I would make sure though it was positioning at a prime teat (ones at the hind). As a rule of thumb the pups should have doubled their birth weight in the first week. Don't forget to worm them also at 2 weeks. Good luck with the puppies and enjoy them.

I don't interfere either and in 30 years (including with my parents) never had any problems except with pups that you just knew wouldn't make it!
