You can do either. Putting it in dry will cook it more like a roasted joint. I prefer to put it in with about1/4 full of water, which cooks it like boiling a gammon, sweet, tender, Mmmmm. I then use the liquid and any tiny fragments that are left, to make pea and ham soup. Think I'd better do one this weekend! :D

Personally, I prefer to put a gammon joint in the slow cooker with a bottle (litre??) of cider

The resulting meat is oh, so sweet - hot or cold!

I believe gammon cooked in coca cola is also very nice - never tried it though.

I always soak mine overnight, drain and then put in fresh water to cover the joint, add a chopped onion, a couple of carrots, a medium potato chopped up, a bay leaf and about 4 peppercorns bring to the boil and then simmer for about an hour depending on weight.
Tastes delicious.

Reading all this slowcooker stuff has made me want one! :D So, what sort would anyone recommend? I would need a big one.

Haven't done it in the slow cooker, but the ham baked in cola is indeed very nice - doesn't taste of cola, just sweet with a bit of 'zing'.

Hi bought mine from Argos, they do large one 6.5 litres.....I have the morphy Richards 3.5 so far so good... I think most of the super markets sell them.....my next thing to try is the Chicken that some ones recommended, and then the Rice pudding ....I've made me self hungry now lol

I bought the Morphy Richards 6.5 litre one from Argos last week and it was in the sale at £23.49 so go get one while they're cheap! I've so far made rice pud, lamb rogan josh and a chicken casserole thats in there now. So far everything has been really nice - wish I'd got one ages ago!
