I found out today my beloved 6 year old Rott has cancerous tumours on his cheek and neck. I am devastated, he is such a gentle soul, so kind and loving. Why him?? I feel physically sick and can't stop crying, we love him sooooo much. I lost my Rottie bitch to cancer 5 years ago and can't bare to think it's happening again.
Bless you.......
I really feel for you and know what you are going through.....
I lost my first Australian Shepherd to a large spinal tumour at the age of 6 years and it hurt so bad. :(
Has the vet given any indication of what course of treatment they might be willing to try ?
Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat.......
(((Hugs))) to you and your beloved fur baby,
Gabrielle xxxxx

So sorry to hear your bad news. I am thinking of you xxx

Thankyou so much for your kind words. He is having surgery on Thursday to remove the tumours. My bitch Rottie had mammary cancer and we had two lots of operations to remove the tumours, they came back for the third time within months. She went through so much pain. I have said that if my boy's tumours continue to return I wont keep cutting him open if it only gives him a little longer. I want him to enjoy his remaining life with the least amount of suffering. His soul mate was our Neo who died 20th April 2004, he has always missed her since her death. A concellation is that I hope she is waiting for him somewhere. Her ashes are on our mantlepiece, when my boy goes, I will put them together again in my father's orchard. ANYWAY, slap myself around the face and stop being morbid, must be strong for him, musn't I . xxxx thanks again chaps.

so sad - give him an extra hug from me

You are being strong at a time that must be so hard for you. We'd all be devastated if this was happening to our own dogs and for you to have to go through this more than once must be very difficult to cope with. You can only do your best for him and make his life as good as it can be. Sometimes cancer can be treated successfully and I sincerely hope this is one of those times. My thoughts are with you and your dog.

Hi
I lost my beloved GSD in the summer to cancer it was so quick. I had no idea until he started to swell up with internal bleeding and nothing could of saved him so had him PTS all happend within 4 days. I have had a huge black cloud hanging over me ever since. I brought myself a pup who I adore but she isnt my boy.
I hope you get good results and a little more time with your rottie. My boy was only 4yrs old so I feel even more cheated
Wendy
I'm sorry to hear your lovely dog has cancer. One of our dogs had a nasal tumour; she had the one op. but after that we said "no more" and she was put to sleep once the tumour started to be aggressive again. Sending kind thoughts at this sad time,
Lindsay

So sorry Danny. I know what you are going through. Amy my tibetan terrier was only 3 when she was diagnosed with cancer and the vet gave her 6 weeks. 18 months later we had to send her to rainbow bridge but we and her enjoyed the time together. Give him and yourself a big hug

Hi Danny,
I am sorry the website must be being updated as it was working last month. I would e-mail them and ask for advice, as I said in my earlier post Malcom Bearley a leading specialist in veterinary oncology works from there.
Do hope you have good news soon.

Just when I thought it could get no worse, my insurance company are refusing to pay for his treatment. His policy review date was 16.02.07 and I took him to the vet the day before. They say that my dog was already sick before the policy review date and to be covered I must declare my dog free from all disease and any signs of sickness. I now have a whopping £600 bill heading my way, even though I have paid the insurance company hundreds of pounds as I have all 4 of my dogs insured with them. Cant believe it, what idiots. !!

Rotten insurance company. :( That's why I don't insure and just pay a monthly sum into a 'vets' bank account. Hope all goes well on Thursday.
Danny,
Will be thinking of you both on Thursday and praying for a positive outcome............
(((Hugs))), Gabrielle xxxxxx
Hi danny, will be keeping fingers tightly crossed for your boy tomorrow - hope all goes well.
Re the insurance company, not quite sure what you mean by review date - do you mean renewal date cos if so, surely he would be covered as the old policy was still be in place when you took your dog to the vet and you were planning to continue insurance cover with the same company? Seems very unfair to me if they can then turn round and say his treatment isn't covered because he happens to be sick when renewal takes place. If they won't budge, is there mention on the policy of an ombudsman you can contact?

Just wanted to provide some support and send some hugs for tomorrow. It would be worrying enough without the insurance problem. We'll have all our fingers and paws crossed that it goes well.
I hope things go well tomorrow - best of luck,
Carina

It sounds like some insurance companies have rather odd practices. I can't understand how they are trying to get out of paying for the cancer operation if you have an existing policy. I do hope the operation goes well today.
And how did they justify only paying for half of the cost for the entropian operation. Fair enough to have to pay the excess, but to have to pay up for half of the cost of the operation rather defeats the object of insurance. Poor dog - it must have been very painful for him.

Just sending a {{hug}}
Thinking of you both today, fingers crossed tight xx

Fingers crossed for your dog, on the insurance - don't know if you see 'Dogs Today' mag, they have an insurance clinic page, the guy runs an independant company offering free advice on pet insurance - this is the sort of case he seems to be sucsessful in getting companies to change their minds about paying. dont know if I can post details on here but you can pm me and I will let you have the phone etc.

Hi,
Kane is back home, feeling very sorry for himself. Two large wounds to his cheek and neck. Unfortunately an elizabethan collar wont stop him kicking the wound to his neck. Any tips for getting wounds to heal quicker?
Tumours gone for histology, vet seems to think it is not good, but hopes we have contained any cancer from spreading.
Been a hard time this week, but thankyou all dearly for the good wishes, they have worked so far !!

I'm so pleased that he's home. Fingers crossed for the lab results.
Is it worth putting a sock on his rear foot to stop him scratching himself so much?
Best wishes

I have previously paid money for those dog boots, he tore them to shreds within half an hour. He went to bed with a sock on last night, the sock appears to have been ingested by my other garbage disposal rottie, who likes eating anything not food. Cant find the sock anyway . Kane's stitching looks okay so far, he is eating well. However, our 9 month old Frenchie is obsessed with having to make Kane's poorly go away with lots of kisses and licks. We are having to keep them seperate. thanks again, will update up as we go along, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
