My friend has a just over two year old bitch, who has been in season for just over two weeks but before this she was milking just little drops, sometimes if the nips were touched a droplet of blood sometimes a squirt would come out of them. I am worried and have told her to see her vets but as she is on low income her vets are the pdsa which in my oppinion are not very good even though they are a charity, I would offer the money for my private vet but I am in a similar situation with money problems and cannot afford to do so
Please any thoughts greatly appreciated

I am not sure on what basis you feel the PDSA vets are "not very good" but they are fully qualified vets which, together with the benefit of actually being able to see and examine the bitch, put them much higher up the scale of being able to evaluate this bitches health than anybody on a dog forum. Producing milk, or what appears to be milk, before a season seems unusual to me so, particularly as the treatment is subsidised, I do not see why your friend should hesitate to get her checked out properly.

I wouldn't call the PDSA. I would be worried about a bitch that is having blood coming from her nipples though!
Whoops, that doesn't look right, I mean as in saying something bad, not not to phone them!

I've just reread it. I missed the bit about blood. Definately see a vet, any vet.

Surely any vet is better than no vet

My vets also see patients under the PDSA scheme as we do not have a PDSA clinic here. They are all qualified experienced vets and I think your friend should get her girl there ASAP

Hi SarahLouise,
ditto the other posters' comments on seeing the vet asap! The PDSA offer wonderful health care and support for those in need and certainly shouldn't be written off as *
"not very good"* :(
They are fully trained and qualified vets & nurses and often comprise of locums from other private clinics or vet hospitals to fill in too. Regardless of any of this, the most important issue is this dog's health and a vet -
ANY vet - is better able to assess her condition than any number of forum members, however much experienced they may be in animal husbandry.
Please urge your friend to take this bitch for examination immediately and keep us updated. Teri
Thankyou for your posts they are greatly appreciated. She still isn't convinced with the pdsa but she is going to see another vet, she told me to tell you everyone has their oppinions but when they kill your dog after missing a very easy to spot problem they under here thoughts are VERY bad vets.
She is seeking help off a private vet that said he will help, so thankyou all ever so much, I will let you know the outcome
The PDSA do very good work Sarah, of course if your friend has had a bad experience then I understand her apprehension, but it is in all walks of life where you get people vets included that screw up, but that is not to be confused with a whole practise or group perhaps one vet made a bad decision and did not spot something whereas 20 others in the group may well have.
I'm really pleased she has found another vet to look at her dog thank goodness, but she should not write off the PDSA if she is on low income, for any future problems, just make sure she does not see the particular vet that she has no confidence in again, she needs a vet no matter what so may well need to use them again one day it may be in her interest to re-think the situation for her pets sake.
Thankyou for your reply, I will tell her what you have said, I tend to agree with you but you know what some people are like and sadly she is one of them people lol never mind though her dog is being seen and thats the main thing.
Regarding the pdsa I actually think its just the Cardiff practice she was talking about as alot of people have heard quite a few complaints about that practice, by posting this I hope nobody thought I was on about the whole pdsa system as I think what they do is a marvelous thing and sadly not many people are willing to spare their "precious" time for charitys, I takle my hat off to these people.
Thankyou for your posts
