Hi,

Anyone with any top tips for a present? - sort of that in between age, where they're not an adult, not a child - I've just wandered around the shops and come back uninspired.

Big for her age (tall and heavy boned, not fat), so if I did buy clothes does anyone have any idea what adult size?

About £15 maximum.

What about vouchers for woolworths or something? I'm never any good at buying other people presents, so i always give vouchers :)

Clothes for self-conscious teens (and almost teens) are a minefield, as someone else has already said.  If you really want to buy clothes then Top Shop seems to be the "in" shop for teens at the moment.

Safer would be a CD.  Find out what type of music she likes and price fits your budget too.

Costume jewellery (never sure how to spell jewelry)  again, Top Shop seems favourite and pretty safe fashion-wise.

Had a look in Top Shop and New Look, on the basis that anything in there would be fashionable, but it all looked too 'old' for her really (or just plain nasty LOL). Even the failsafe Claire's Accessories route wasn't the usual treasure trove of sparkly girly stuff.

You could ask for help from the girls parents, possibly there's a cd or dvd she's been wanting. I wouldn't get clothes, that's a bit of a minefield at that age. What about a bit of jewellery - silver necklace or earrings?

or a shopping trip to Clares accessories? My neices love everything from there, it's all cheap as chips too :D

My Daughter will be 12 in April and the *in* shop for her age at the moment is New Look 9-15 range:)  Some nice girly pj's in cute wrapping should do the trick and won't break the bank :-)

From about that age Flo always asked for money or vouchers as that was when she started to go shopping with her friends with out us :)

Girls at that age can be very fickle, well Flo was :D

Ah, she'll have to be fickle then, not doing money or vouchers. :D It is a bit of a 'political' present really, to keep the peace in brother-in-law's broken relationship (not his daughter).

Quite like the idea of clothes as the girl's mother blew her top when my mother-in-law bought clothes for the girl once, as apparently 'clothes aren't presents'. Think I've tried to make every effort to buy clothes since then (evil icon), although they have been nice trendy ones.

Am quite into the idea of PJs, but couldn't work out sizing - the 9-15 range in New Look seemed to be in height, and I was a bit lost.

If you are going for clothes then I would go for a size above what she is.

Flo is in size 8 to 10 clothes and has been for a while.

Tee shirts are a favourite of Flo's will logo's etc on :)

Trouble with going a size above, is that I don't know what size she is in the first place. Don't want to ask the mother, as she'll tell me not to buy clothes. Perhaps I'll just go a bit below the top of the New Look 9-15 range, they can always change the size.

Mollie is nearly 13 and she loves new look. She wears a size 6 adult or age 11 - 12 :)

Many shops do gift receipts these days, if you ask.  It doesn't have the price on but is proof of purchase incase you need to change anything.

My daughter is 12 (13 in September) and she is big boned and tall too.  She got some pj's for xmas and was really pleased with them.  I tend to buy her age 14 clothes or 8 to 10 adult sizes now.  New Look is the place to go as is Claires accessories.  How about a watch?  They do nice ones in Claires

I was in New Look at the weekend and they had some fabs stuff in the sale. My daughter is 13 just a couple of weeks ago She isnt big although tall and has a slight belly she brought a size 10 jumper and it fits her perfectly. Go for something baggy were you can get away with the size being wrong.

My daughter wanted money for her bday so she could go shopping with her pals. She also wanted make up especially foundation. I was agaisnt this as I do feel she is to young but all her friends are wearing it. So I took her into Boots and the No 7 sales lady was fantastic explained all the different foundations and adviced her and what was the best. Then when she decided on  the one she wanted she showed her how to make sure the she got the correct colour. I was impressed. She then told her how to clean it and recomended a good cleanser. Daughter paid for the makeup and came away feeling all grown up and feeling she had made the right choice without me butting in.

So make up and clothes would be onthe top of my list, and CDs by people I have never heard of but that is because I am not cool lol

My middle daughter (12 in April) is all CDs, DVDs (all the teen films, eg. those with Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan etc) and clothes and accessories -well that is not counting dogs and hamster of course...... Gift vouchers for a record shop or similar I'm sure would be appreciated. Also she's now at the stage were she loves getting money so she can pick something herself.

high school musical is a pretty popular dvd/cd at the moment, my daughter is 13 and loves it.

Another idea might be a trip to a nail salon to have a manicure - grown up present but not too grown up :)

Loads of Lush smellies if you aren't sure about clothes size :D

Agree with New Look. Bobs is 12 in September and loves the stuff, you could get vouchers for there, also agree with High School Musical, another idea would be (well its a birthday) Some kind of choclate treat....a real extravagance

I would instantly head to Accessorize if I had to buy something for a 12 year old girl.

Daisy ... wags finger again  You won't get loads of Lush smellies for £15!  One or two at the most!

Shows how often I shop at Lush then ... :D :D :D (Personally, I'd go for the vouchers - my daughter loved/loves getting vouchers :D )

How about the very long necklaces that are all the rage at the moment - oasis and accessorize have them but next had them more reasonably priced.(£8-£12).

My daughter is 12 too - 5 foot 9" tall and size 12 to 14 - New Look 9-15 wouldn't even look at her and hasn't fitted her since she was about 9!! Why not get her a Red Nose Day T-shirt in an adult size - selling them in TK Maxx today - help a charity and annoy her mother :D She could wear it as a PJ top after RND

My daughter is 12 (13 in April where does the time go? ;) ) and she is int to jewellery. She got a charm bracelet for christmaslast year and just wants more charms :) Easy present for the next few years :D

She gets clothes from my step mother every year. What a disaster. :( I don't think that we have had anything in the last 12 years that my daughter liked, or if she like it it was the wrong size :rolleyes:

My daughter would hate to be bought clothes from anyone apart from me, I do know her taste as she is individual (her words not mine!) She is 13 and adapts a lot of her clothes, she had last year or if she buys them from a high street shop.  She is 5ft 7 and a size 8/10 depending on store.

cut and blow dry at my hairdresser :)  for a 12 year old it would be slightly cheeper :)

£24 cut and blow-dry at the cheapest hairdresser in this area! ;)

Only thing is, you know how important hair is to us females.  If the hairdresser gets it wrong what an awful present that would be. You can't take it back and exchange it either.

What about 2 tickets to the cinema?

How about a trip to the bowling alley they do party nights as well.

New Look shoes are excellent, I have one pair of shoes from there in 3 different colours & they only cost £15 each!!! Bargain!!
