Thought I would post this for a some thoughts. We have been showing for some 15 years and have our first dog who is eligible for the Veteran classes. He is a 10 year old mini wire dachshund who did exceedingly well in his younger years getting 2 CC's and 4 reserves before he took a back problem that resulted in surgery and a few years to get him back on his feet.
Now he is looking excellent for his age but one problem..........he has lost 4/5 of his front teeth, some top, some bottom just through old age.
I had him at the Mini Daxie Champ show at the weekend where he won the Veteran class for his breed but he stood alone as the only one in the class, this made him eligible for Best Veteran in Show which of course he did not win.
Question is would you show a toothless wonder or not and for the judges out there, would you consider this as such as serious fault that I should retire him from the ring.
He has always loved showing, a rarity for us and its a shame to withdraw him if he and we can still get some fun out showing if this is not going to cause a major concern for the judges

Go for it, I wouldn't worry about the absence of a few teeth at his age. I have a veteran too, and showing him is much more relaxed than it used to be, I don't expect great things from him and it's much more of a day out for him than anything else. Like your chap, my Bailey just loves to be at a show regardless. Enjoy

i wouldnt be so worried about the teeth, afteral veteran = old

but my only reservation is the oor old verterans i see draggedaround the shows week after week & I just think they would be better off in front of the fire at home

My veteran goes out about 3 or 4 times a year, and he loves it, no kidding, this old guy sits by the showbag and defies me to leave him behind.

Three of mine have won CCs from veteran. One was made up as a veteran and another won 2 CCs as a veteran - both at Crufts, one at nearly 9 and one at nearly 11. I love showing my veterans but don't always expect that sort of success! If you and your dog enjoy it - go for it!
Not a problem with Sid, if I thought for one moment that he was not happy I would not contemplate showing him. He loves people, fuss and food, not in that order.
I took him on the train 1st class, stayed in a suite of a large hotel, he slept on the bed!! got steak for dinner, lots of walks, loads of attention at the show and a sausage for the veteran class, I think he thought he was in heaven.
But seriously he does love his shows and I will know when he has had enough

I remember Sid's problems, great to hear he's doing well :D
