Hi

Does anyone have any experience of a dog with a collapsing trachea.

I have found loads of information on the internet and my vets have been great,
but as my dog is now progressing into the final stages I would like to speak to
someone who has been through the final few weeks with there dog, or who has
any experience of a dog with this condition.

Many years ago I had a young dog die with this, it was not a nice death and I have to say that if I ever had another dog with the same condition I would never allow myself or the dog to go through with it.  This was more than 15 years ago and i remember it like yesterday.  It is a painful death.

sorry I kow that this isn't quite what you'd like to hear but if it was my dog I'd rather have them PTS before it takes proper hold.

A lady fairly near to us has a rescue Yorkie who has this problem. It is most noticeable if he gets excited or barks but they have had him for around 3 years now and he is still with them. They foster four other dogs as well as having two of their own so he is in a busy environment but, so far, is coping with his condition. I don't know a huge amount about the condition other than the general information this lady has told me with regard to her dog but I wish you well with your dog.

I am sure that you will make the right decision, whatever that may be, for your dog and it's particular circumstances.

Hi I had a yorkie that had a collapsed wind pipe although it was not a gradual thing for him it happened quite suddenly. I woke in the early hours of the morning to find him breathing strangely. I took him to the emergency vet who diagnosed a collapsed wind pipe. His breathing was very very noisy and his tongue became blue. He was kept in the vet for 3 days and they tried all sorts of medication but he didn't improve. I then had to make the decision to have him pts. There was an operation but as he was 12 and had a heart murmur they would not operate. Probably not what you wanted to hear, I'm sorry, my thoughts are with you. My girl Poppy fell asleep tonight and no longer has to struggle for breath.
