Topic Dog Boards / Health / Exhaustion???

Hello,
I have a query about my 2.5 year old border collie dog. He is usually very active and very fit. Although he is currently very lethargic and just not himself.
Today: Refused his biscuits for breakfast, when let out all morning he "mooched" around quite dazed and not interested in anything. He refused further treats at lunch. On his walk this afternoon he had a normal poo. Also on his walk he was very slow for a dog that usually pulls all the way, he also layed down half way home so OH encouraged him home. He has slept since then and is still not interested in anything and very lethargic.
Last monday evening he was similar that he was lethargic and not interested in anything but he was also cold to touch so I took him to the lounge where it is warmer (as I thought he was cold from being in an outside run all day) and he slept a few hours then was up playing and very happy.
I am hoping that when he has slept for a few hours tonight he will be back to normal.

Does anybody have any ideas?? He has had a normal weekend: show one day, walk/run second day. He is awake alot more on a weekend as he is with us and during the week he is in an outdoor run all day. Is it any significance that OH has started running every third day with him for the past two-three weeks??
Let me know your thoughts

To be honest I'd take him to the vets and see if they can find anything.  This doesn't sound right at all.  Once, maybe after a heavy days exercising is ok but more than once would worry me.  Any change in his normal health and attitude could be indicative of an underlying problem.

I think I would be tempted to have the vet give him the once over, could be he is harbouring a mild infection or possibly a heart problem, best rule those out before going any further, Could just be that he is growing up and settling down, or just feeling a bit off colour at the moment but better safe than sorry!

Hello. Thanks for that!!!
I think that I will wait to see if he is still tired tomorow, do you think this is OK??. If he isn't still tired tomorow is it still worth the vet looking at him?? I hate rushing to the vet all of the time, we seem to be there weekly!!!
When he had his last jab - nearly a year ago, the vet did note that he had a slow heart rate but he put it down to being extra fit which he usually is. The vet did say that there was a condition causing a slow heart rate but the other symptoms of this disease were not present (I think it was putting on lots of weight but I can't remember what else)

Don't leave it too long if he does not improve... better to be a frequent visitor at the vets tham to regret not getting something sorted and missing it!

I agree with the others that a trip to the vets is in order. I've never known a young healthy collie to lie down and refuse to move on a walk - I joke about mine that they'd run forever even if you chopped a leg or two off. After a busy day yesterday, a 3 hour walk then an hours agility lesson mine are tired today. They still wanted to go for a walk, and still wanted to stay out longer than I did, the only way I know they're tired is because they're not charging up and down the stairs madly while I'm on the pc :)
