Hi
I have replied to stories like this in the past and will repeat my experience again.
I had just had my young dog castrated and was told by the vet to give 'lead' exercise only for a few days. So I took him to our local park, one quite morning, on a lead. I saw a couple of boisterous 'off lead' Rotties heading straight towards us so vered off the path away from them. The dogs saw us and left the path they were on to cut us off. The owners called the dogs. The dogs ignored them. I kept heading away from the Rotties who just kept coming. They caught us up, bowled my dog over into bramble bushes, jumped all over him. He is long haired and got caught up in the brambles unable to get to his feet. I frantically tried to get these dogs off mine until their owners arrived. I calmly told them they should not let their dogs loose if they could not recall them. They began shouting at me using the same old tired story" they only want to play". Two men playing tennis came to my aid and really gave these owners a good telling off. I was lucky that my dog was uninjured, that his stitches didn't burst, that in all the commotion the Rotties did not attack as they are very prone to be 'sound activated' animals.
How does any owner of a uncontrolled, off-lead dog know the background of any other dog? How do they know if that dog (or owner) has a heart condition? EVERYBODY has a right to exercise their dog in public places in safety and have their right respected. If you can't recall your dog don't let it off lead where it can be a menace or danger to other dogs, particularly those on lead who are unable to run off.

Just HAD to say,
I would never ever in my wildest dreams, put an electric collar on my dog.I would rather stick pins in my eyes. Why,would I want to cause my dog pain, when I know he has already suffered enough, pain does not teach any animal anything but fear, most know this,so to the person who posted about these collars,FIND another way even if it makes life hard for you. This is the point, dogs,or any animal, do not always fit neatly into your life, mine, sighthounds, will always be rubbish at recall, because of what they are, what they are bred for,and it would be extremely wrong to punish them for it,just have to do your best and work around problems, find solutions to sometimes difficult situations.
