We are going to buy a small conservatory from one of the large DIY stores.  But, I need to find an honest builder who isn't going to rip us off, can anyone suggest a website I can look up to check the builder first, before getting a quote   I did manage to find one site called FMB find a builder.  Many thanks.

The only good way to find a good builder is by recommendation - either a satisfied customer or an architect etc. I'd never pick one from the Yellow Pages etc :)

Have to agree with Daisy.  A good builder can be very hard to find but are worth their weight in gold.  Recommendation really is the best way.

Maybe have a look around your local area to see if anyone is having work done that you like the look of. When we were having our house renovated (major work inside and out ) we had several people knock the door and ask who our builder was as they were impressed with how our house was shaping up :)  I should have been on commission as a few people on our street later employed our builder to have extensions/repairs done :)

Having had a lot of renovations here, I have to agree, personal recomendation is the only way. The good ones are usually far to busy to have much need for expensive adverts!

What's wrong with going with the large DIY stores builders?  at least that way you will have some comeback if they do it wrong.

Or if you live in the east midlands I can recommend a brilliant conservatory company do very good quality and very reasonably priced - for example they did my 4m x 3m Edwardian - supplied and installed for 8K
