Topic Dog Boards / General / Japanese Spitz question

I wonder if there are any japanese spitz owners out there who can help answer a couple of questions.

A friend of mine is looking for a jap spitz and has seen an advert in our local paper advertising jap spitz puppies for sale and who then phoned up to ask some questions.  I know very little about the breed but to be honest, the "breeder" sounds dodgy.

They are advertised as pedigree but when asked what lines they were from, the "breeder" didn't understand the question but said they were not kc registered which was why they were only £795 each instead of nearer £1000.    He was told they never need bathing nor grooming and very little exercise and they don't have any doggy odour.    They are good with young children and they are extremely difficult to get hold of in the UK.  They are now 8 weeks old and were wormed last friday.

To be honest, I would advise looking on the KC site or phoning the Jap Spitz club (if one exists).

Any advice?

Yep contact the breed club.

they are a double coated breed with a similar coat to a Samoyed so will need considerable grooming and bathing to keep the white coat clean.  Also eye staining is a possibility so that would need to e kept on top of.

This is a reputable and well established breeder (who is also involved with their breed rescue) and if you look at the link above, kennel club registered pups are £550 but of course they have a waiting list!

Yours sounds dodgy to me! :(

thanks all for your replies and advice.   I've seen the advert myself and the "breeder" is also advertising several other breeds and says he can deliver.   I've told Ken (the friend, in question) to stear well clear, as to me, it smacks of puppy farming.   Just a pity there's probably no way of proving it nor doing anything about it.

thanks again
