Just received my renewal and its double in price So i'm in the process of searching for some more.  I know i've been lucky with Jazz as in her 10 years she's only ever had Kennel cough and of course her annually bits and bobs, so i don't know how much things cost at the vets such as x-rays, blood test and the like.  What would you say would be a safe amount for vet fees per medical problem, I've seen some insurances pay up to a £1000 which to me does'nt sound a great deal or is this OK?

What breed/size is she and whereabouts in the country do you live?  I deal with quite a few insurance companies and with a few notable exceptions you tend to get what you pay for. 

You might have a problem as she's now 10 and most insurance companies won't insure a dog after they reach 8.  I know More Than will insure older pets and there's another company but I can't for the life of me remember which one.  I'll let you know.

In London £1000 per condition could disappear pretty quickly.  If she ruptured a cruciate, for example, the bill could be well over £1000.  There's also a chance she might end up on long term medication, NSAIDs especially can cost a lot, especially if she's a big dog.

I hope you never have to use the insurance and she has another 10 years!

Jazz is a crossbreed, small to medium size and we live in the North East.  I have found a couple of insurance companies that will take her on but put a limit of a £1000 per medical condition on her.  I hope to we never have to use the insurance and she carries on being fit and healthy.

£1000 per condition won't go very far at all if Jazz develops a life long condition or needs major surgery, however if it is all you can get because of Jazz's age it is definately better than nothing.

M & S insure dogs over 8 but not sure about any limits they might put on due to age. Normally they pay out up to £7,000 per condition per year and will continue to insure for life for ongoing health problems as long as you continue to pay the premiums. Like any other insurer they exclude any pre existing conditions for new customers.
