OK chaps need to make a decision quickly,

What colour carpet is best to disguise or not show as much the marks/doggy pawprints etc.
This will be a plain colour carpet not with any pattern to it.

We are going for stain resistant carpet - although got stain guarantee for things such as crayons, wine etc
it doesn't cover staining caused by pets...

We were originally thinking a mushroom colour which is termed mocha on the
back of the sample. There's one that's called spice which is not quite teracotta..
At the moment we've got a mottled airforce blue colour.

Help need to make a decision by tomorrow afternoon

Not too light and not too dark - anything in the middle is fine I think. Too light is a nightmare for paw prints and too dark shows every hair, the rest is up to personal preference and exsiting soft furnishings?? :)

Hoping to change the furnishing eventually too...
There's always throws over the sofa anyway.

Mocha is like a coffee with milk colour (if that makes sense..LOL)

Well personally I would go for the terracotta one as I like terracots in the livingroom and you can pick up terracotta throws everywhere. The mocha sounds too bland, with bland walls - but this is just a personal preference :)

Muli-coloured carpet really would hide marks the best but failing that what about one with sculptured areas built into it?  I don't know what it is called by the carpet people but a checkerboard or paisley, for example, pattern is cut into the carpet by leaving some areas with a shorter pile.  That will also help to hide dirt.

I had a dark green carpet with the paisley design in it I dont know what it is called either lol but it is like embossed wallpaper. Only problem is the hairs gather in the shorter bits and you need a really good hoover to get them out. I had to chuck mine in the end as it showed every hair and crumb and was a nightmare to keep

Don't get Mocha or mushroom or any other light brown colour, It looks great when it first goes down but as soon as the new carpet 'sheen' goes off it it is just horrible! Green tends to fade. We carpeted a new house 17 years ago and had a few colours of the same, not very expensive carpets, in different rooms, the best ones were peachy/terracotta colours, still got one in my dining room and the one in my living room lasted until last summer, it held its colour well and looked fine except for the holes chewed by naughty puppy :rolleyes: . It survived 16 years of kids, dogs, cats, hamsters and work boots! The first ones to be lifted were the mushroom ones, after about 5 years cause they just looked so horrible even though I loved them when we got them! Go for Spice everytime :-)

Kirstine ive a Mocha carpet in my lounge and i love it..my lounge is used all day everyday and you have seen my two dirty horrorsstill looks clean..ive the Opulance mocha..ive posted a pic of it on the other board..

They used to market their stainproof carpet as 'Piddle Proof Carpet' in the dog papers!  I had their cream carpet that looked like Wilton down for 9 years with dogs, pups etc and used to clean it with bleach!

carpet ?   ....whats that ??.... LOL  . Seriously though I would NEVER go back to carpets they are a nightmare when you live in a multiple doggy household - they show every mark, are difficult to clean, fleas lay their eggs in them and they hang on to all those mysterious dog aromas

in the living room.

I have 3 Boxers and 2 cats...so I do have a multiple pet household.
I only have the occasional visit by nephews/neices.

I was just trying to get a good idea of what colour is best before it has to be ordered
and we regret the colour choice we made...you know what it's like arrrgghh:rolleyes:

I'm not going to tempt fate but we rarely have fleas and we treat the carpets with stuff to stop them
growing etc.

I don't blame you shying away from a pattern as they can look so naff and dated in no time :) but Persian style rugs are never going to go out of style.  Further more if you invest in a good quality wool one you will find you are not relying on the pattern to disguise any stains anyway as they clean or even just vacuum up beautifully.
We have a large one covering most of the varnished floor boards in our sitting room that is now over 20 years old and it looks just as good as the day we unrolled it.
I'm all for working the house into a doggy low maintenance condition but why compromise on style when you don't have to .

Personally I'd go for a colour that's similar to the pets :D :D  or a mottled mix of all their colours :D :D  that way hairs won't show up so much :D :D  That's if I ever went back to carpet, which is really unlikely as I love the hard floors, so easy to keep really clean  :D :D

Erm I'm stuffed then as I have two brindle and white and one red and white Boxers.
Then I have a dark tortie and a black and white cat...
Nah him indoors wouldn't go for a brown,black, chesnut and white carpet....:D

I've gone for Mocha and hope that it will be ok....
