At Manchester champ show I was letting my dog have a wee in the exercise area between buildings. It was a marquee style covered area. From nowhere this other large breed dog came around the corner by itself on an extended lead about 8 feet and launched an attack on my Frenchie puppy ( who was on short lead ), grabbed him by the face and shook him all before I had time to think.  The owner of the other dog was chatting to someone else and only came over after my dog squealed. He denied his dog had bit mine until a witness yelled at him to control his dog and backed me up what had happened. My poor pup was shell shocked and suprisingly not injured, just had slimed face.  I complained to a steward but no one took any action.  Surely that exhibitor must have known its dog was other dog aggressive and had a dog that was not under control.  AAAAgghh  I hate extended leads anyway, ,but at a show in the middle of loads of other dogs.  Very frustrating!!

It's a shame as it should have been reported to the secretary of the society at the time.  Do you know who the witness was?  I think I'm right in saying that you need to report the incident at the show if you intend to follow it up later (which, IMO, you should).  Agressive dogs have no place at dog shows.  Let's just hope there's no lasting effects for your puppy.

How awful!!! I do hope your puppy is alright!! I have seen on many occasion, exhibitors, not watching there dogs while holding them on leads, only for them to lash out at a passing dog.
As Surannon says I hope it has no lasting effect on your puppy.

Quite agree Leomad. Its just as annoying when exhibitors don't keep their dogs on short leads when passing dogs on benches! Then make a fuss when benched dog doesn't like 'their' dog in their face!

I know that one of my friends dogs was attacked by a dog at one of the champ shows at the end of last year.  I think that because they are new in showing tht they didnt know the rules so didn't do anything then but I believe a number of people who saw the incident complained to the breed club, this might be something to think about.

I've actually in 20 years of showing only seen two attacks.

I can't understand why people insist on using extending leads like this. We have them but only for when we are walking the dogs in the country where they can't be off because of livestock. At any other time a normal lead is sufficient and gives you better control. If people must use them then they should be locked at a normal lead length when in crowded areas, surely that is common sense. We saw two Mastiffs going for each other at ring side once - scariest thing ever (might have been at Manchester funnily enough). Hope your pup is OK
