Topic Dog Boards / General / dry blasting

Just wondered if any one does this, we have big hairy dogs, someone suggested dry blasting them.  They said it helps to remove the hair and the regrowth is faster.  When i say dry blasting them i mean with a blaster on a dry coat inbetween washes.
Anyone do this?

Yep and I do it outside as the loose hair goes everywhere. It really blows the dead coat out and gets the dust out of their coats at the same time, I often just spray them with water and blast to give a tydier look between washes too.

I always think that the quicker you get rid of the dead coat the quicker the new regrowth starts as well, maybe just my imagination but it,s worth the effort and the dogs just love being blasted, wet or dry.....

Oh great i shall give this a try then, my boy is starting to blow his coat and i think if i do this every couple of weeks he might look better by March.  He doesn't mind the blaster so he will stand no problem infact he loves the attention.  Cheers

I have a Gizmo from Dezyna dog - it's amazing the amount of dust that comes off the dogs coats when they are blasted - I do it about once a fortnight at this time of year ( outside  ) most of the dogs jostle for position in front of the blaster - they just love it ....except for Mad Max who thinks it is the invention of the Devil :D

My two like it once you have started but get all excited when it first goes on.  Think it is the noise at first, yes dry day outside job.  Lots of hair flying around, but the birds like it.  We got our blaster from Dezyna dogs aswell, big black one with long hose.  Our Cavie even stands waiting to be done but i only do her on the back she doesn't really need it but has to have her go.  She loves to be groomed.

Mine is a MINAG by SOPRADOR small and hand held it was not very expensive either got it at a champ show as the show offer about £75.00 I think. But very powerful and works really well.
All mine love to be blasted and I have a nozzel that fits on the hoover and grooms and sucks at the same time, they love to be done and it helps keep the hair down at moulting time.
I have three full grown Bernese all mounting at the moment and one just out of season one just in and the last one just waiting for her Mum to finish so she can extend the season, season! as long as possible!! why can't they all come in at the same time?
Someone once said to my  how do you cope with all the hair and another friend said "Just brush it into a heap and call it a rug??" Ho Hum.....

Our 8 month old pup has just finished her first season, so i take it she will now blow her coat aswell.  That was fun with Boden around but we managed, he only got overly wound up for about 4 days then it all went nice and quiet again.  I am going to blast mine today it is so warm out i can't believe it.  My dyson certainly earns it keep aswell but its all part of the fun.  Someone once said "people with immaculate houses have boring lives....."  Certainly not any big hairy dogs.

I dry blasted mine today Yvonne, well it was such a lovely afternoon I thought why not get the loose hairs and dust off them. Only thing was, I forgot about the line of washing I had out  and of course I was covered too. Don't know what the neighbours thought of me 'blow drying' the washing, and myself,  :D :D but it did the trick :)

My blaster is an Air force commander (cool name and is good!)  i got it at crufts last year from HUB aroudn the 150 mark.  I wish I could blast the dead hair out of my dogs but as their coats blow it has to stripped out by hand! Their coat is very soft and the feathering matts if you try and blast it.  i use mine just for their body and feet and the OH uses it to dry is beloved Motor bike!
