Topic Dog Boards / General / My Other Dog in Vets Very ill Now
- By bevb [in] Date 31.01.07 22:54 UTC
My other dog Shady is now very ill and in the vets on supportive therapy. Not the same as Milo but she is vomiting bright pink sick, in a lot of pain and vet said her heart rate is slow so he has to give her something to speed it up and tempreture also low.
He said he is unable to give me a prognosis on her as to whether she will make it at the moment. He is running bloods and I am going to ring soon to see how she is doing.
I just feel exhausted and am going out of my mind with worry over her right now

Bev this is truly truly awful.  I know you have a lot to deal with right now but I think you should seriously consider getting the environmental health people asap.  Something is very very wrong and in light of what you've posted on the other thread I think you should tell environmental health exactly what has happened.

Your vet should be able to provide notes for the environmental health people.

Thinking of you, as are lots of peeps on here. x

Fingers crossed that things pick up soon.

This is just awful, Bev.  I do so hope that Shady recovers.
I think we all wish there was something we could do to help you get through all this.

Well Shady has been transferred this morning back to my vets still on a drip.  She is still not looking at all good.
- By calmstorm Date 01.02.07 09:41 UTC
My thoughts are with you. Another thought crossed my mind, and its an awful one, but could there possibly be anyone near you that for some reason do not like your dogs and could be feeding them something they shouldn't have over a long period? Something tasty, poured on the ground, making them eat the dirt? Don't know how accessable your property is when you are out. I know it may sound a bit 'X Files' to say, but i wouldn't count anything out. There are some very strange people out there.

Just praying your dogs will be ok. Sending hugs.

Bev, your poor woman. My heart goes out to you. I would definitely have someone from environmental health out ASAP. If it is some kind of poison it may help with treatment. Hopes and thoughts for both of your dogs and big hugs for you.

My best wishes Bev for a speedy recovery for both your doggies, you must be going through all kinds of mental trauma. Keep fighting and I hope for some encouraging news soon.

Oh no.  This is awful, you must be a basket case, I would be.  Calmstorm has voiced my thoughts, are your dogs getting into something poisonous?  Does your Vet think it could be a poison?  Innocently (or ignorantly), substances could be stored somewhere, or discarded somewhere, that are bad for them.  It is too horrible to think that this could be on purpose.
- By justlou Date 01.02.07 19:59 UTC
Poor Shady :( I have everything crossed here for you both x

Shady has come home tonight.    They took the drip out later this afternoon and got her to lap a little water which she kept down, so tried a little food which also stayed down, so told me I could collect her.
They have given me some tins of that disgusting special diet stuff for her, which I have to give her tiny amounts often for 2 days, then she can move onto scrambled egg little and often, following few days little bits of chicken and rice and then middle of next week if all still well she can slowly have her food mixed in.
They were very strict that nothing is to be rushed as she really was a very sick dog that they were not sure would make it.
Anyway she has eaten two small feeds of the tinned stuff tonight and so far so good.  Poor girl is very exhausted though and crashed out most of the time. I'm just so glad to have my girl safely home again after the vet saying last night he couldn't tell me if she would make it through the night.
Vets think it was something she has ingested rather than thier first thoughts of pancreatitus, although they said if she is sick at all again or starts to go back downhill to get her back in immeadiatly.
She was only really bad for 24hours but it seems much longer, but that 24 hours managed to cost me. £372  so what with Milo's bill last week of £155 its been a very expensive doggy week.  Thank Heavens for insurance.
I want to thankyou all for your support, you have been wonderful and its mean't so much, you really are a great bunch.
- By CherylS Date 01.02.07 23:59 UTC
That really sounds promising.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that Shady continues to mend.
- By skyblue22 [gb] Date 02.02.07 01:04 UTC
So sorry to hear about all this, healing thoughts to all of you.

Just a thought, but as well as looking for toxins in the ground, I would have your tap water tested plus anywhere your dogs paddle or swim, especially if it's near farmland.

You're not near any mobile phone masts are you?

All the best and hoping for good news,

Barbara xx

Good to hear that things are looking a bit brighter now Bev.  Just take things a day at a time and don't forget to look after yourself as well :) - you must be exhausted with all the worry.
- By leomad Date 02.02.07 07:50 UTC
