Can anyone tell me the scientific reason for this? my pegs tail has really thinned out,can I do anything atall to stimulate new growth,no bald patches just thin, used to be the fluffiest tail ever.

Don't know the technical reasons, but steroid use, esp over a long period causes hairloss. Short of not taking steroids I don't think there is anything can be done about it. My old GSD was on steroids and she was a long coat with the most magnificent tail. Just before she was pts, you could see the skin on her tail, and she was also virtually bald where her fluffy  'trousers' once were .

after one of my girls had her litter she lost a lot of fur from her tail (long coated breed) I gave her SA37 ( available from hyperdrug) in her food to build her up  now she is nearly back to normal with a lovely flowing tail  :)   http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=SA37PWD200G
