My female is in whelp. . Anyways, she is absoulutly MASSIVE, and has been since week 4. At the moment, she lives in a cage when we are out(World-class chewer)(and she tends to urinate when she is left in an open space by herself), what is the very latest she could be moved into a puppy friendly environment(more spacce etc..)

I also wanted to find out if her'passive' behaviour will switch to 'aggression' when the pups have arrived?

Thanks for any replies,

Ideally she needs to be sleeping in her whelping box now so that's she's happy there when the time comes. Can you not make a secure area for her, larger than a cage, so that she has more freedom of movement?

I'm not sure what you mean by her behaviour becoming aggressive. Bitches become protective of their litters but not aggressive - unless they had poor temperaments to begin with, in which case you wouldn't breed from them in the first place.

Thank you, i'll set up her whelping area tommorow.

She has a GREAT temperament, i've never even heard her growl. But there is just one family member which she is EXTREMELY fearful of. I wanted to know if the fear for that one person would turn into aggression if that person went near her pups. With everyone else she is great with.

Thanks for your reply:P

If you know she's fearful of someone, don't tempt fate by allowing that person near her. In such extreme circumstances and extreme reaction is very possible. Your job is to keep her calm and relaxed and free from stress to rear her babies in safety. Animal mothers have been known to kill their own young if they think they're threatened.
