Hi, just wondered if anyone could shed any light.... a friend of mine has a Mini Wire Haired Dachshund bitch.  She is a year old and not long had her first season.  She is having a phantom pregnancy at the moment and a little swollen with milk.  Her owner has just noticed 2 swellings in her groin, one larger than the other and very much like an undescended testicle. I believe this can happen occasionally but cannot find anything on the internet about it.  The dog is going to the vets on Monday but we were keen to find out as much as we could as she was bought for showing etc.  Many thanks

It could of course be a inguinal hernia, rather more likely than hermaphrodite.  A visit to the Vet should clear up the matter of what it is.

Think you right here Brainless, I have a Cocker Spaniel "bitch" who is a hermaphrodite (psudo). She looks like a normal bitch, her vulva is slightly different than it should be however when she gets excited a  little something starts to poke out !! 
This was first noticed when we first took her to be cut before a show. On the advice of the vet we had her bits removed, the vet said she had what looked like testicles where her ovaries should have been and what should have been her uterus was more like the tubes from testilcles but they were formed like utarine horns. She was in a right mix up. now she is just perfect. We bought her to show and possibly breed but now she is just a pet and loved sooooo much . Even bosses the big dogs around.

Think it sounds more like a hernia, don't think hermaphrodite's have seasons that's why it's usually found out after someone goes to the vet querying that they've never had a season.  Though one of my girls used to get a slight swelling when she was in season and the first 2 weeks of her pregnancy. 

Thank you so much for all your replies.  It most certainly made sense re. the season.  The bitch went to the vet who examined her and believes it to be to do with the phantom pregnancy.  Apparently they can get a fatty deposit in that area, which gets trapped and forms this lump.  Minds have been put at rest now, thank you.

So pleased that this is it.   My first SWD on her last mating looked as though she had pups and she had lumps which would move around, like your girl my vet told me that these were fatty deposits so of course she never had any pups, I was fooled for the first time ever though!
