I was coming home from a dance class and singing away in the car (not speeding) when i took a corner a little quick and didnt cater for the wet road. I dipped in a little pot hole next to the grass verge which shot me to the other side of the road and then back to my side of the road landing me in a ditch! I was kind of on my side and was so shocked! I got out of the car and had no bruises or scratches. A woman stopped to help me who was absolutely wonderful and stayed with me till my OH came to tow the car out of the ditch. Luckily he's a mechanic so he took it to his work, changed the tyres and buffed the scratches out!

I realise now just how lucky i was. If there had been a car coming the other way we would have crashed head on. I was wearing my seatbelt (i'll be honest - I don't normally!) and I think it's taught me a very valuable lesson!

Glad to hear all is well after your scare.  To be honest, I can't understand this 'not wearing seatbelt' business!  It was only after my sons friend was badly injured after a crash (broken neck) I realised how many young people don't wear their belts.  Apart from anything it's against the law!

I think with me the not wearing a seatbelt was that I rush everywhere and I'm lazy! I admit that Im lazy when it comes to that! I have worn my seatbelt as soon as Ive gotten in the car today. Wouldnt risk it again!!

I consider myself a careful driver and it just shows how a moment lapse in concentration (the unconscious competant thing) can result in sometimes horrific circumstances!

i am glad you are alright, but the thing about wearing a seat belt, i walk the dogs around the time the little ones get out of school, and you see their parents in the car and they belt up. the little ones and we are talking age 5 to about 10 sitting in the front of the car no belts on, and some standing between the front seats from the back, do these idiots of parents not realise how precious there cargo is, proberly not till they put their child through the front windscreen,
sorry for the rant but i just want to knock on the window of the cars and shout at them to get the kids to buckle up idiots.

Glad you're OK - just remember BELT UP every time from now on ;)   Hope you're not too shocked tho, sometimes it can hit you when you're not expecting it ;)

If you see this sort of thing regularly you could  have a word with the police, they might send someone out to 'remind' parents how precious their children are ;)  I know what you mean tho, I see it around where I live, with young children and dogs   yet if you suggested they could just as easily dangle their little ones 5 ft over a glass coffee table they'd report you for being a sicko :rolleyes:

Now thats one thing I am good at! Whenever I take my niece's or nephew's anywhere I always make sure they belt up!

My car came back yesterday and all the scratches came out! Unbelievable really! I might put a £1 on the lottery!

These things sometimes happen, to make us stop and think. That's my belief, anyway. Take this as a reminder to use your seatbelt, and all will be fine!

Please wear your seat belts and impress upon your children the necessity for doing so.  We have had a terrible rash of teenage driving deaths where I live.   Canada, but it can happen anywhere.  In one horrible case five, (5) FIVE 16 and 17 year boys were killed in the same crash.  Contributing factors were, not wearing seatbelts, speed, inexperienced drivers and alcohol.  Not all the same factors in each case, no alcohol in the five.

I had an accident a few years back and wasnt wearing a belt and hit my head on the windscreen. It made me realise that if I had been going faster I would have gone straight through. I have spoken to a friend since who is a nurse and she has spoken of having to pluck thousands of shards of glass out of someones face. Those they cant get out work their way out naturally through the years which sounds dreadful. I always wear a belt now and thankfully so as I had an accident recently (on the same day as having had driver awareness training :D ) which could have resulted in the same had I not have been 'belted up'. Luckily my OH is a mechanic too and fixed mine for me - handy isnt it ?!

So glad youre ok - belt up from now on :)
