Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Barf feeding question
- By mrsdil [gb] Date 26.01.07 12:00 UTC
I am new to barf and my dogs love it and eat all they are given, the only problem is they seem to be constantly scavenging or begging for more. If i go to the fridge they are jumping up me trying to get more treats.

I am sure they are getting enough..approx 2lb of meat, each plus carcasses/wings and bones.  I have been rotating also with raw egg/vegetables/yogurt etc..

One is 5 months old (approx weight 4 stone) and the other is 18 months (approx 7 stone).  They are both very lean and poops have been a lot better.  They seem to be weeing more though..is this normal?

TIA

Since I have been feeding Barf my two are like Labs possessed when it comes to food now :D :D

I think it is just because they love it so much ! Dudley's head is a regular feature inside our fridge now  :D :D

My GSD used to come back from his morning walk quite sedately. Now that he gets raw, my other half is always moaning about Zak dragging him back because he is looking forward to breakfast! Zak also stands his ground to defend his breakfast & won't let his annoying best friend Tilly (terrier x) intimidate him while he is eating. She previously had taken to barking at Zak while he ate his dried food, she knew he would walk away & leave it when she did this! He absolutely loves it.

The normal guide for feeding dogs on a raw diet is to feed 2-3% of their body weight and adjust up or down if they put on or lose weight. A pup is normally fed 10% of it's body weight or 2-3% of the predicted adult weight for the breed.

So this would mean that your older dog should be getting between 2-3lb of food a day which is based on 2-3%. As all dogs are different the amounts can vary per individual dog and should be adjusted accordingly. What is the predicted average weight of your pup when it reaches adulthood?

I  have been feeding a raw diet for the past 10 months (a large breed who started on raw at 8 months old) so am not as experienced as some other members of this site but am sure other people with more experience will be able to give you more info.
