Can anyone enlighten me as to why my Pug Matilda contantly licks me? She will not stop licking if i stop her from licking me she will lick the cushion or chair or anything around her she even licks in mid air if she cant find anything to lick!! does anyone know why she feels the need to do this and is there a way i can stop her without upsetting her as i know she think she is loving me its so anoying to be soaked in dog spit all the time

Anyone?
I think some dogs are just like that - my younger GR is exactly the same!

Yes Dudley my youngest is a licker !
I think though she does it to tenderise me as she has done it more since she was swapped over to Barf :D
Mmm, hadn't thought of that - my 2 are BARF fed as well. :D

My two are lickers too, my boy more so than my bitch...and yes, they are BARF fed as well!

Hopefully a real trainer will come along but this is a thought; to teach a dog quiet you teach it to speak first. So how about teaching kisses to give the licking a name. Then teach a stop command. My dog knows enough which means stop whatever you're doing.

Hey..
i have a licking Rhody. She licks and licks. If not me then the other dogs, her derierre, the dog beds, the carpets, and even the windows.
I think all mad things are called 'window-lickers' I never thought it was for real!
Could it be a nervous anxiety thing? I know this statement is banded about a lot but can it be applied in some of these cases.
The only time kimba doesnt lick is when shes asleep. Which is alot of the time, Rhody's are very lazy.
Regards
http://www.pets.ca/articles/article-doglick.htmThis is a link to Dr. Coren's book, a section on this subject. I seem to remember, though, that he addressed this problem in one of the TV shows as well and it was treated as a problem that needed to be dealt with. If I can find that I'll post it.
i thought it had something to do with boredom? they get obsessed with licking, so that even though they arent bored anymore, they will lick anyway....?
We have a cat who does this too, and being a cat his tongue is rough and hurts. When he strolls into the living room we all try to avoid eye contact with him so he doesn't 'choose' us to sit on and scour our skin off. We think it is a sign of affection - he grooms us like he does his sister but as we have no fur it does get a bit painful :D

Thanks everyone for your inout and thanks Jetstone Jewel for the link very intersting!
