I have had the need to phone Axa re M&S insurance and mentioned Sainsbury as I knew they were the same underwriters. Apparantly they have had numerous customer complaints about both these insurers and the problem seems to be that both M&S and Sainsbury use an outside agency to to investigate new claims that are submitted. The initial claim seems to take a wee bit longer and paperwork seems to go astray because of this but I don't think there is a problem with them paying.

I've insured mine with Argos. I've claimed twice and i've had no problems. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

M&S caused me hassle and were very rude.

Sainsburys were ok until they hiked their prices.

Argos are very comparable in the policy without the HUGE premiums.

Is it a lifelong policy?

£6,500 per condition over a 12 month period.same as pet plan.

good enough for me.

lifelong-as long as premiums are up to date.

M & S were great until they altered all their prices.  They were never rude but literally quibbled with a dental op one of my Chi's needed, and also took forever to process claims.

They also excluded things from change of ownership that had been previously covered which was a pain as I'd insured and trained a dog for a friend and he had a small eye condition that they excluded when we transferred ownership.  It was petty as we could have transferred it sooner and been covered, but the vet recommended we wait to claim and did it all at the end - by which time the policy underwriters had changed things.

I have opened a seperate account and I plough all the allocated premium money into there so that I never have to worry as I have quite a few dogs now and it seemed more cost effective.

what you should have done was keep the dog still in your name and insurance detail and got them to pay a d/d into your account for the monthly amout of insurance.then tell their vet who they went to say the dog still in your name and all they had to do was give the vet the claim with your signature on it

Yes we toyed with this idea for a while, but they have since re-insured with PetPlan as there was a great improvement.  To be honest since the eye condition was investigated the tubes they used to flush the tear ducts out to investigate have slightly stretched the eyelids and as a result the tears are draining much more efficiently and the original problem has mostly resolved.  The dog only has spillage if he's got a cold or gets dusty.

The only further treatment that could have been done was drilling into his skull to assist drainage and this seemed a barbaric solution to a mainly asthetic problem so the only real concern was if the condition worsened would the spillage create soreness and bacterial infections - luckily that hasn't been the case.
