Awful, imagine an animal dying in solitary, not even barking, and dying because it's simply forgotten...

I couldn't believe this story. I do think someone should be prosecuted about this poor dogs death - certainly they would be quick enough to prosecute a member of the public who left their dog to starve to death/die of dehydration. And then they just got rid of the body quickly before an investigation :(

I drove past the police station last night, after reading the story in a petrol station. It took a lot of self control to just keep driving and not go in and have a go at someone. Imagine if that was your beloved pet that got lost - what a way to die :(

I agree chaumsong, there should definitely be a prosecution here, after all the original owner would have been prosecuted if they had done such a cruel thing. Ok maybe it was a mistake , but surely someone should check these kennels everyday to ensure such a thing cannot happen. I am absolutely appalled that such a thing should happen.

Someone needs to take notice of this,I walk with an ex cop,who at his station(quite a few years ago, threatened his superiors that if they didn't provide proper kennels for stray dogs,he would go public and inform every animal rights group he could.
He said that within a week, the station brought in new kennels and had a proper area for them, where as before, they used to have no space, more of a cupboard.
We need more people like him.
God bless this poor dog,who knew no human kindness whatsoever.

When I did work experience with the local dog warden they check in with the police station each morning and go and personally check the kennels themselves because the police had been know to "forget" or be "unaware" that a dog had been bought in :(

What an appalling story! Poor, poor dog to die in such callous circumstances.

My mother is very wary about the standards of care that animals receive in police hands since the day she was asked whether she'd take in a goat that had somehow found itself at a police station some 5 miles from her home. Having agreed to rehome it, she was then horrified to discover that the police planned to get it over to her from Kesh by tethering it on a long rope that they were going to attach to the tow hook on a police car!
