Topic Other Boards / Foo / Birthday pressie idea please - 65yr old

It's my dads 65th birthday next month and I'm stuck for an idea for a pressie for him. He's really difficult to buy for as he's got enough money to buy whtever he needs for himself.

He likes walking and is fairly active despite having a few medical problems. They've also got a Motorhome and go off in that at least once a month.

He doesn't really have any hobbies that I could buy something for - he's got everything he needs for those.

Can anyone suggest anything special I could buy for him - up to £200.

Thanks,

Fiona

PS - He's not got any room for anything on the walls so pictures are out and no ornament type things because their dog would break it.

Fiona

Does he like drawing/painting? What about a nice art kit to get him started - if they go off a lot then he should have no shortage of material:)

How about sending them away for a slap-up weekend somewhere?

Dad's are hard to buy for I find. It's not the money they've got but the fact they generally have everything anyway!!!

What about a really nice ornate walking stick ,{Not the kind for sick people}
I got my husband one for when he takes Zac out and it had a big Horse head
that came off and a small glass tube to hold brandy was inside

Sam is in his sixties and I had the same problem he also likes caravanning so I went in Smiths and got his the latest AA map book and also the latest campsite book you could get him ordinance survey map with walks on it I know Sam was made up with his gift and his old map was really out of date
Now he has chucked out all his old maps also got him a years subscription to Practical caravan, cant suggest what to get for the other £150 though :) :) :)

Hi Fiona,

I've got a dad just like that.

What about membership to the Caravan Club of Great Britain, they have much better sites, clean and everything!!!!!!

Haven't got a clue what it costs though, but it can't be too much as my parents belong and although they are loaded, (well compared to me) they are as tight as !! er !! something that is watertight:):):):)

Failing that, a years supply of dog treats to give to your dogs!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck, let us know what you choose as it may help me next year.

Hi fiona,

What about my addy so if he is stuck he can send prezzie to me.. :-)

Kidding apart what about a cordless drill or screw driver..you know the ones with interchangable heads..you even get ones for polishing and sanding wheels of cars etc..real trendy for him , if he is anything like my dad all his tools have cables still.

Good luck on your search..my pops is 65 also and now disabled he favourite prezzie now is a nice day out with his daughter and grand daughter with a nice bar lunch somewhere. A small birthday cake and a big hug. Nothing replaces it.. I think to be honest last 2 birthdays I got him a nice wool cardigian form M&S and we took him for a meal..

Let's see, what have I sent my dad over the years. He never really likes to buy anything for himself and there's limited room on the walls too ;) :)
..... celtic artwork (small reproductions), Music CDs, Books, Sweaters, Air Force Jacket (that was a real hit), Movies (vhs), local food specialities, and lots of little artwork. He seems to have enjoyed everything :) :D

I know you said no art work but how about commisioning an artist to paint his dog/s. They can do it from good photos I believe. Surely he could find a place for such an important painting??!!

If he is the adventurous type how about Gliding lessons ? It is really good fun and I am sure he would enjoy it !

Hi,
If your dad is into 'Motor-Homing' and he not already a member. How about a subscription to the Caravan and Camping Club of Great Britain. They have sites all over the country, and run mumerous rallies and fun events.

Just a suggestion, he may find it interesting.

One year I bought my husband a glider lesson and he said it was the best gift I ever gave him! He too has just about every "thing" under the sun and if he needs anything, he just goes out and buys it. There are lots of different types of "experience" gifts available nowadays. In fact, does he like formula one racing....I'm fairly sure you can buy an opportunity to drive one of those fast babies around the race track! Just type "gift experiences" or something similar into a search engine and you'll get something. Otherwise, Boots sell boxed experiences at their larger stores! :)

OOH! Just checked and you can even learn how to drive a tank! Or maybe a Lotus is more his style?!

What about driving around a Humvee, just like Ahnold? ;)

Thanks - I've got loads of ideas now :) I'm going to talk it over with mum and see what she thinks dad would prefer.

Thanks again,
