Topic Dog Boards / Showing / CC's and winning help =s

Hi all,
Just a quick query, as I get a bit confused with all the different ways to qualify for crufts..

Theres a Beagle Club championship show in march. They have the classes from minor puppy - veteran for both dog and bitch and says Kennel club challenge certificates awarded. To get a cc and qualify for crufts, do you have to come first in your class (i.e. post graduate) or come first overall...(ie. best dog)

To qualify for crufts you only need one cc right?

Sorry if i sound a bit stupid lol

Thanks

The qualifying places and classes for beagles are 1st - 3rd in Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, PostGraduate, Limit, Open (and I think Veteran). CCs aren't necessary for qualification to be shown at Crufts. :)

Oh i see thanks.

Well our beagle would be put into Novice, so if we came first in that class we wouldnt be able to qualify?
- By JaneG [gb] Date 17.01.07 12:26 UTC
That's correct, you would have to enter Post Graduate too to have a chance of qualifying for Crufts :)

No, Novice isn't a qualifying class in itself. However if he won his Novice class and then won the CC (or Reserve CC? Can someone confirm please?) in the competition for Best Dog (all class winners automatically compete for the CC) he'd qualify that way. But it's extremely unusual to win a CC from Novice. Better to enter a qualifying class as well for a better chance. :) How old is your beagle?

CC and RCC both give stud book no's so would qualify for life.

I'm afraid Novice isn't a qualifying class.  You could put him in Post Graduate as well as Novice and see how he gets on :)

Hi,

To qualify for Crufts with a Beagle, you need to win any of the following awards at a show with challenge certificates on offer for the breed:

First, Second or Third in Minor Puppy Class

First, Second or Third in Puppy Class

First, Second or Third in Junior Class

First, Second or Third in Post Graduate Class

First, Second or Third in Limit Class

First, Second or Third in Open Class

First, Second or Third in Veteran Class

Each of these gives you a qualification for the following year. If you were lucky enough to win a CC, a reserve CC, or a stud book number through class placings (1st in Limit class, 1st-3rd in Open class for Beagles), that would qualify your dog 'for life'.

The CC is awarded to the top dog and bitch in the breed, and the reserve to the next best. (You don't need a CC to qualify for Crufts.)

Hope that's answered the questions, feel free to ask more - we all had to learn it at the start.

M.

Hi (fellow beagle owner),

The show in March which you mentioned is only a beagle club open show.  Their champ show is held in June.  But, nonetheless, it is still well worth entering as the breed shows as small and friendly and they are a good opportunity to get to meet other beagle people.

Maybe see you there.

Hi,

sorry, thought you were talking about the Beagle Club open show on 24th March.  Good luck with the 4 counties show.  Are the schedules out for the houndshow in April?

I'm not sure if it still does either Welshie.  I qualified a bitch that way for 2005, but don't know now - would be interested to hear though.
