Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lumps.....thoughts pls
- By freespirit10 Date 14.01.07 16:10 UTC
Hi

I noticed Beth had 3 extremely tiny lumps on her undercarriage back in October. Two vets checked and said they were 99.9% certain they were nothing sinister!!! At the time Beth was fat and so although they said they could take them off I declined because of her health and she is 9 yrs old. She now has thyroid tablets and has lost 2kgs taking her down to 39kgs.............still a way to go!!!
This week I was with her and she was rolling around the floor, and her lumps have grown. About 1 inch in diameter is one. 1/2 inch diameter another and they other one I can't find at the moment. They were tiny before cos the vets were surprized I'd found them.
I know fatty lumps are like bubbles and are not attached normally so pls can I have your thoughts on beth's pls. They are attached and not like bubbles!!!
I am going to take her to see the vet on Tuesday but am now worried cos they are growing.
Any thoughts..............I'd rather go to the vet armed with extra information if I can.

There is only one way to know for certain, what's in a lump. That is to take a biopsy and send it off to a lab for analysis. When one of my girls, seven years at the time, had lumps in her undercarrige, no biopsy was done, they just decided to remove the affected parts. I insisted on knowing, so they sent the lumps away afterwards. Luckily they were benignant, and she's never had any more since then. Tella is now eleven years old. Should new lumps appear, I wouldn't let them operate unless they had done a biopsy first, because of her age. The problem is, if there are several lumps, you have to test them all, to be sure. It is possible some can be malignant, and some not.

Good luck on Tuesday, keeping fingers crossed for you and Beth!

If the lumps are free and can be moved then they are fatty lumps :)

How near are they to her nipples ?

No where near her nipples, she has a very saggy undercarriage!!!  Right up underneath her and no you cannot move them.
I guess we will have to wait and see, my vet is not on tomorrow and need to use the vet I trust obviously.

If they are not growing then that is a good sign ;)

Lets hope it is nothing too sinister ;)

I am sure she is going to be ok :)

I found a lump  that I coouldnt move on the neck on my old girl while sitting in the vets waiting room with suspected Pyometria.
She was operated on the next day for pyometria and a biopsy on the lump taken. It was found to be just a fatty lump. How I hadnt found it before I dont know as it is quite a large lump. It is still there 7 months later.
Hope you have the same outcome.
Lea :)

Thanks for that Lea its nice to know that lumps that don't move can be ok.

I would never leave them, and have them removed while pea sized.  They have roughly a 40-50% of being malignant cancer, and small wounds heal better.  As there are several it may be prudent to go for a partial mastectomy.

My Elka developed a pea size lump at five, which turned out to be Carcinoma.  She then had another in same place at 8 1/2 and the gland was removed along with it's neighbour sharing the same lymph node.

She lived trouble free until 13 1/2 dying of something quite unrelated.

Well I am now more than stressed, took Beth to the vets and she will be having the lumps removed tomorrow vet does not think it wise to biopsy because of the few days it involves. He thinks it wise to remove them tomorrow and then get them tested.
Trying to be positive but she is overweight and 9 yrs old and I can't get the memory of losing Whiskey back in October out of my mind.
I'm sat here cryoing now so god knows how I'm gonna manage taking her in for the op tomorrow.

Nicolla

I am sure she will be fine and please try not to worry.

The vet will take very good care of her and she will be back with you before you know it ;)

Give her a big hug from me and do let me know how she gets on :)

Take Care

Inga had a large lump removed from under her tail back in November . the lump appeared in three or four days and was just like a sausage hard and not able to move, She,s absolutely fine now the lump was benign and Inga will be ten in a fortnights time.
Her mother had a small lump taken from her hock at the age of eleven and a half which was cancerous luckily the vet got all of the lump and it never came back.
I,m sure your girl will be fine you,re doing whats best for her good luck and let us know how she gets on.

Good Luck. It is never easy knowing what to do and we all get edgy when they are away from us. Take Care.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Beth today!
Trust your vet in his decision, he's had the advantage of seeing and feeling the lumps. If he thinks your girl if fit and healthy enough to have the op done, I'm sure everything will go just fine. It's a quick op. and not very stressfull for your girl's body afterwards.
Let us know how she's doing.
