I have my 3 insured with M&S and the premium last year stayed much the same. But I am concerned from the comments made here that there might be a big increase this year and therefore want to investigate other options. I have searched here but cannot find any recent posts giving info on other insurances. I have used saga before - don't know if anyone has experience of them or are happy with a reasonable cost policy from elsewhere.
Thanks.
Louise

I got a quote from Saga and they were double what M & S wanted, I have recently changed from Pet Plan to M & S and more than halved my payments.

Virgin appear to be reasonably priced and the benefits seem similar to M&S. I still decided to go with M&S as I have found them to be excellent when making a claim and no excess.

I have 1 dog insured with M&S, the other dog is with More Than who I've had no problems with.

Remember that, if you switch, the new insurance company will not cover any already existing conditions.
Yes, thanks Zarah - I am aware but it doesn't pose any problems for us - but a good reminder

With M&S no excess policy even if they double my premium it will still be worth it knowing that no matter what is wrong with my boys I can just hand over my claim form at the vets and not worry about cost no matter how small or large. I have claimed loads this year, its certainly been worth it.
I have my 2 insured with sainsbury's. They seem OK so far but then I've only used them twice to claim (touch wood)
Can anyone tell me if your dog has had any health problems before you insure them are they not covered

just for what they have had or do some policys insure them regardless of any health problems.thanks.

Most companies will not cover pre-existing conditions at all.

I had M&S no excess policy and I was very happy with it, put in a small claim and it was paid no arguments at all. However, last year on the renewal notice I saw that, without any notification to me, they had changed the excess from nil to this 15% of the bill nonsense. When I phoned them they told me it was because the dog was now 7 years old and was a "higher risk" so he no longer qualified for nil excess. I'm changing to Halifax when my renewal comes up this year as they don't have age limits and can offer lifetime policies for a reasonable price.

I'm with morethan. So far they have been great. About £3000 worth of claims last year and our premium went up by a few pence a month. Still around £13-15/month for my golden born in 2005. They have paid promptly and completely. I pay 15% of the costs.
Wait til they are five-six years old! They will increase then trust me :( ;)
I'm talking from experience here
CG, that is fairly common practice with insurance companies i'm afraid, even pet plan add a % of the bill on top of an already existing £80 excess and huge premium as the dog gets older. Is it really worth changing, has the dog had any illnesses before now?
