just been reading M A S's thread and just got me wondering. When you register pups what happens if they are born on different days - or does it not matter that much?
sorry a silly question but had to ask
Anna
Hi, this does happen quite often where half a litter is born before midnight and the latter in the early morning. You register them all just on one of the days usually the latter date is the day to choose. :-)

Do you mean, if a pup is born for example, on Jan 9 & the other pups born on Jan 10?
If this is the case then I tend to register a litter on the day that most of the pups were born.

cool. thanks
I guess it doesn't matter either way, my bitch has been like clockwork every time she is bred she seems to start about 9pm and finish approx 5am the following day, so I have always really had a good split and have opted for the latter day.
But to be honest I'm pretty sure that the KC would register the pups on two seperate days if they were different colours and easily recognisable, with pups the same colour and size and sex etc, it would be difficult to know which was born when.
It is an interesting question actually, I have always opted for the latter date if it is just a few hours in-between.
I'm going to be cynical here ;) If any of the litter is going to be shown, and the 6 months deadline ends up on the first date (in other words you could enter a show as being 6 months old on the first day of the show, but can't if 6 months old on the 2nd :) ) guess what date would be used :D It's not a problem I've had, thankfully, but you never know..... ;) :D

I've often wondered that! I asked my friend once and she said much the same as LindyLou - look ahead 6 months and see if they would just miss a show with a good judge! :-D Another friend registered hers on one day rather than the other because the first possible day was her first ever dog's birthday and she wanted to keep it special.

I thought I'd say that earlier Lindylou but didn't. That is what I have always done. One of my litters was born over 2 days and it meant the difference between being in puppy or junior for their show. Well the day of the show mine was a puppy!!!
I have also expected puppies (bitch never produced) due 23rd April and said straight away that they could be born then but they would not be registered that day as it is Beth's birthday and always will be only Beth's birthday.

I put mine as the first day as that's the day the birthing started.

I was told by the KC the you register on the date that the majority of the pups were born
