Hi Welshie,

Always had my girls scanned by someone who is EXCELLENT :-) and always had 1 more ;-)  so the likely hood is there is more than 2, keep an open mind is my advice.

I've never had a correct number on a scan IME they have always been next to useless, I only use the scan now to make sure that everything is as it should be and for no other reason.

Vets generally will under count to avoid disappointment, most of us will be extremely happy with our litters after a scan. :-D

My vet (who is so say very experienced at scanning) told me my girl was having 2, she was scanned 4 times in total due to bleeding during pregnancy, she had 6 healthy pups!

1st litter my bitch was scanned by the vet for 3 she had 6. This time Archie the sheep scanner scanned her and said 7. She was scanned early at only 26 days after one mating due to excessive bleeding, she had 8.

I have had vets say they could see 3 and had average size litters o 7, so I wouldn't worry, unless the person scanning is one that is particularly accurate with estimating numbers.

On the other hand quality is worth more than quantity.

My Jozi's sire won over 12CC's and his sister the Group at Crufts and they were the only two pups in their litter.

is it true about the birth not so easy with only 2 and more of a possibilty of having to have a ceaser? (dont think ive spelt that right)

I have a sheep scanner who has so far been spot on with all my dogs. The last 2 litters were both predicted as only 2 and this was what we got! The first litter of 2 was a problem as first puppy was very large and she stopped contracting afterwards. On the vet's advice we waited 6 hours but then went to the surgery for an Oxytocin injection and second was born at the vet's. The next litter we though we might have the same problem but second pup was born 30 minutes after the first. Although it can be disappointing to have only the 2 there are some benefits as the pups did not need so much intensive support and it was easy to make sure they had lots of 1:1 time.
