I say im going to a show any further north than Birmingham :rolleyes:  Went all the way to Newark today, especially to go under this judge cos he bred Alfs dad so I thought he might like him - how wrong could one be, we got thrown out

That £45 I spent on petrol could have gone on a night out, instead im going to be sitting in on my todd tonight watching tv cos im skint :(

And the boys had a punch up in the back of the car on the A34 - all I could do was scream at them

We did have time to stop off at greenham common on the way home so the boys had a nice run and splash in all the big puddles

I was thinking of sticking to agility from now on, but that could work out similar - travel miles to a show then run the course the wrong way, instant elimination

I might take up knitting - at least then I could sell what I make ........... anyone for a holey jumper ??? :p

Not that we dont enjoy it - Tuesdays are my favourite nights of the week, but with me there has to be something to aim for and its usually winning something (which is why im not cut out for showing because its out of my hands )

Well it will start as fun - never 'won' with my irish but we had a lot of fun taking part!!!  have you done any comps yet?  the collies were all far to quick for my girl! :)

we have done some club "matches" he won the jumping class - and beat a few collies too, he got an excellent rosette and really cool embroidered lead    We wont talk about the agility class, but all I can say is ... he did really well, shame mum took him round the wrong course :rolleyes:

little sods!!  Alfie must have sat on Fagan and Fagan got the a#se because he doesnt do early mornings - or Alfie treading on him - so instead of a polite growl he pinned the poor sod down and attacked him :rolleyes:

I didnt know what to do - couldnt pull over, thought about tooting my horn but didnt think that would make much difference - other than to draw the attention of every passing motorist :D

I think it was mostly noise, you only have to look at Alf funny and he screams :p  But I could just imagine turning up to the show with a bloodied dog.  Fagan travelled home on the back seat - you should have seen his face when I put the window down for him from the front, he just couldnt understand what was going on and just stared at it with his ears pricked, not the sharpest tool in the box at times :rolleyes:

Know exactley how ya feel, went all the way to Malvern today... waste of time... predicted winner (b4 any judging started) won....How's that work then:rolleyes: Had loads of fun watching and learning... other breeds some very smart dogs.

i only been to one since oct that was gundog of wales.

the same reason the entries ok to pay for but it the petrol,food/drink on the day that add up.

have a local show next weekend then that it to crufts due to gollie puppies and dont want to catch kennel cough after what happen to the my other litter.

so have safe alot of money not going so been doing to house up instead

I can't afford to show mine either.  I'm single, have a mortgage etc. and just can't afford the fee's petrol money etc.  I'm more reluctant to pay as unlike most people on here even if we won BOB that's as far as we can go as we are  not allowed to enter BIS etc. so it's not worth paying out for.

Thats awful that you cant go in for BIS - seems a waste of time, do you still have to pay the same as everyone else ?

yes we  do pay less at champshows not open shows

where is the logic in it though - if you win your "group" be it breed, AVNSC or import surely you should get a shot at BIS

Must admit I was very surprised when talking to a friend the other day that no Import classes at Crufts seems a tad unfair to me and seems rather odd!

dogs that have dock tail may not be able to be shown or take part in d/d where there the public are paying to go into this show or events.

But isnt that dogs that are docked AFTER the cut off date for docking????? And surely by now alot of the impiort register are British born anyway, but still classed as import???? And does the docking ban cover docked foreign dogs???

The import register isn't for imported dogs, it's for imported breeds which only have an interim breed standard in the UK, which is why they can't compete further if they win Best Import Reg.  There are many other breeds abroad which can't be entered even in the import reg classes as they have no UK standard at all.

And does the docking ban cover docked foreign dogs???

I'm not sure but I would hope so.  Then it'd be a level playing field for all.

the  bann is already in force in some contry aboard.plus the dogs aboard donot have a import class they have their own classes so if they quafily aboard to enter crufts but  they fall into the import classes over here so they cannot go

Yes but some of us also work our dogs to, thus our breed as long as we can show that they are going to be worked will still be allowed to dock.  The thing is that our working dogs would then not be allowed to be shown nor going to any game fairs etc. where the general public pay to get in!!

Why the government have found this important when other things are going on around the country let alone that they are suddenly discovering all these illegal pitbulls.  Let's face it all they had to do and the police was look around the streets.  Surely that is more important than a stupid law that they have no clue about is.

I had an e-mail from someone who went to the Scottish Parliament meetings asking me for photo's of my docked and natural bobtails running and turning round because supposedly a docked or  natural bob can't do such things!!

Anyway sorry going off a bit here, but no we can't even go for the groups either.  Supposedly it was to stop us from getting too popular too soon, but some of us when we brought our breeds into the country realised that if you didn't ask stupid high prices for them that people wouldn't want them so quickly.  Unfortunately other breeds are coming into the country and asking over a thousand for their breeds thus making it more likely that they will become the latest in fashion dog as the GP will think money is to be made from them :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Know exactly how you feel.  Our dog was top in the breed two years in a row despite being up against some tough competition but was never allowed to go in the group. Sometimes the judge would let you do a lap of honour but more often than not you got nothing but your pedigree bag (still got them too!!). We weren't even allowed in the first Discover dogs although the KC changed their mind before the second one and ours got to represent the breed twice (cost us a bl***y fortune travelling to London and Birmingham from Scotland too)but we still didn't have a class at Crufts. Used to really annoy me, but what the hey, I knew he was the Best In Show :D

Haven't shown since Midland counties, adn tat with the retired Veteran.  My champion girls haven't been anywhere since Richmond in the younger ones case, and earliewr than that for Jozi.

One would hope it is because it is a good dog, of the judges preferred type and on form.

Well put TV on and watch Mel Gibson on BBC3.  My normal limit is Stafford, as 3 of  of our 18 CC shows are held there.

I know how you feel Claire, last year I had a tip that a judge loved my boy, drove all the way from London to Blackpool including an overnight stay, and got chucked out with only about 7 in the class!!! Why do we do it eh?? :-D

Oh Claire, I know just how you're feeling just now. I've been through it too. In fact I have been to very few dog shows in the past 18 months-two years. I brought Bailey (Irish Setter) out a few times in Veteran and did very well and a little win gives you such a lift.

I've clipped off all the Americans because I felt the effort required to keep them in show condition was so much more than the reward, well there was no reward, so I opted out. I have a 6 year old bitch that I'm going to do some Veteran classes with later this year, so no more serious breed competition for me. Just a show here and there for a day out.

Chin up girl, just try to think back to the days when you enjoyed it, and ease off a little.

Im easing off a lot, well so I thought, until I looked in my diary and realised I have shows booked every weekend through Jan and Feb :rolleyes:  They are all local (ish) shows though the furthest is coventry but most are around my area :)

If its any consolation I did exactly the same thing last year at Manchester. The owner of Isabellas dad was judging so I may have had more expectations than normal but we got chucked out too. I came back down to earth with a big bump! Won't waste an entry fee again though!! :rolleyes: It is nice when you have no expectation at all of a show/judge and then you have a really nice win as we did at WKC last year, even though was the only one in his class he went onto BP in breed so I was dead chuffed!
I did have a bit of a break from show (well, a couple of months) but then got withdrawl symptoms!! Just sent off a bunch of entries to keep me going though

I must admit everytime we have won ive never had any expectations - that really is the best way to be !
