How well do your lot know names of family members or names of toys ?
My lot are quite clever ( blimey did I really type that

:D ) and know the names of everybody eg the girls come and hassle me for dinner and if feeling lazy go and tell them to hassle Daddy and they do :D :D If they are just pestering me I say go and pester whoever and they go to them :D :D
They also know the names of 'Squeeky' or 'Ball' and when they have soft toys (that last long more than ten minutes  ) them :D

Roxy knows people's names and her toys names, although my OH likes to confuse her. For example, she has a golden coloured furry dog called Trevor (that was the name he came with, honest), but OH calls it Kevin for some bizarre reason. She also has a black and white toy thing that can only be, in my opinion, either a dally or a cow (it is black and white after all) OH calls it the lamb. She doesn't seem to mind and nine out of ten times will bring the correct toy.

The borzois have a limited vocabulary... walkies, out, sweeties, bone, biscuit, dindins and rabbit..the latter being their favourite word :D
The collies however know 4 peoples names, we've tested them by telling them to take the ball to so and so and they never get it wrong. They also know the difference between ball, squeaky and tuggy - but if you tell them to go get a fetchy it can be any of them? They know quite a few commands. sit, stand, down, stay, come, bed etc and of course their agility commands, go, left, right, out, tunnel, frame, walk, tyre, seesaw etc

Yes mine are good also on main commands like sit etc but sometimes 'come' is a difficult word they struggle with  :D :D They love the word 'Dinner' :D :D

lol...yes I know what you mean, I could have put come on the borzois list but it would have been cheating, as really I have to shout "come for sweeties" and they come racing :D

Mine know
dinner, breakfast, biscuit, bone, kong, food (well they are labradors)
they also know tennis ball, ball, teddy, walk, 2 peoples names, bed (mine of course) sofa, river and mummy.
only commands they know are stand, some know sit, stay (well occasionally) and get out the way silly and find it.
Beth is the funniest I give her her dinner and it can be 10 minutes later and I say right mummy is gonna put the dinner on and she runs to the food bin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine know all the family members' names. Bramble will deliver things to them too when told. Both dogs know the names of most of the main rooms in the house and will go there to find a toy when told. They don't have many toys but know most of the names. Also normal training commands - sit, stay, down, back, close, stand, through, up, over etc plus sundry words such as go, leave, wait, move, fetch, bed, off, hold, lead, collar etc etc :D
Daisy

The obvious ones are walk and dinner and the usual commands. To avoid the over-excitement that "walk" provokes I have used other phrases that she has since learnt such as "jaunt in the woods" and "stroll around the park". Other phrases that she responds quickly to are... fetch collar, fetch my slippers, fetch kong, fetch Ellie (poor stuffed elephant toy that has had its throat ripped out

She knows immediate family members' names and also my mum and dad's names (when she hears their names she stands at window watching for them wagging her tail vigorously :D Also knows car, let's put washing out, in. Quite a lot really.

Gosh, I wrote out a list of the words Jet knows for her boarding kennel once and it was quite long and I am sure they did not bother with it. When I pick her up I notice they use a different word for one of her favourite toys than I do but she still responds. She knows her toys, our foot wear (ie. hiking books as opposed to running shoes or slippers and which are mine and which are his) many people and pet names, household items like truck, jeep, chesterfield or bed, obedience and agility words and of course food. Jet is a Lab too. However, I can use the most obscure word (space station, telescope, washing machine etc.) and as long as I preface it with, "would you like a ........" she gets all happy and drooly. If I preface it with a known non-food word I get the most wonderful perplexed look that means she thinks I've gone nuts.

Lol... yes, maybe they're not as smart as we think they are. My old collie used to start screaming when I said walk or walkies or out so I started spelling it. Saying I was going out for a W-A-L-K but she learnt that too, I was so proud of her until oh said she done they same when they spelt bread, feet and hippo!

Yes my lot know which footwear means what type of walkies :D

mine know 4 peoples names, sit, down, twist, paw, other paw, stand (2 back legs), stick, dinner, breakfast, pigs ears, whats this, come, stay, wait, go, out, here, back, dog walk, hup (agility), all the agility equipment, heel, leave, on your mark, squirrels, rabbits, walkies etc...
pesto knows, 5 dogs names (her friends), find it, ball, toy, stick, roll over, play dead, walk (hind legs), weave, give me 10, wipe her nose, close doors, open doors,

Why don't mine know "get down" and "quiet"? lol are they deaf - or just ignoring me? :D
My four yankies know a two word phase "mummy's cupboard" this is where the treats are kept. If I can't get them in, say mummys cupboard and they fly through the door and sit in front of it. They also know bedtime.
Roxy knows 'Dining room' from any room in the house - e.g. when visitors come, if she's hanging round the bin in the kitchen...she'll run to the dining room.
I said this to my husband the other day, how is it that spend eternity teaching one command and others come quite naturally and without any effort at all!
Other than the normal ones She also knows how to wave, and will sit quietly in one room whilst her dinner is down in the next until I tell her to 'get it' where she does a scooby doo running on the spot impression :D

My 2 know:
sit, paw, 2 paws, other paw, lie down, go on (with finger pointed in appropriate direction), off, settle, breakfast, dinner, fruit, sweetie(s), Get toy, ball, Bone, cats, rope (toy), pretty, beautiful (alternative names), pull, don't pull, Ssssh, sleep now, walkies, lead, park, this way, go around (tree/lamp post when on lead).
Amazing when you think about how many words they actually recognise. Also amazing how selective their hearing can be! :D
Molly knows:
dinner, more dinner, biscuit, cheese, cuppa tea, sit, walk, wait, off, no, up, gate, car, paws, other paws, boney, mummy, alfie, garden, weewee, bed, come, good girl, bad girl!
I didn't realise how many words she knew! I always say Molly before I say any of these words.

Ours can spell

They soon learned what walks meant.........so, as we did when the children were small, we started spelling words out - e g
A-R-E Y-O-U T-A-K-I-N-G T-H-E D-O-G-S O-U-T Y-E-T
or T-I-M-E F-O-R W-A-L-K-I-E-S
or S-H-A-L-L W -E T-A-K-E T-H-E-M T-O T-H-E C-O-U-N-T-R-Y P-A-R-K
all in a very conversational, non-dog exciting manner - will have them going loopy - rushing to the door for leads, etc.
I think they are also trying to learn to read - from the way that Thor & Loki pore over my shoulder if they are in here when I'm on the computer.......well they are Aussies!!!

I am sure my three understand a whole heap of words but they only choose to listen to the ones they feel like such as walk, pigs ear, bicky, dinner, I'll feed the girls, you coming? Things like wait, stay, steady, calm, down, and don't do that fall on deaf ears although they do seem to know Don't you dare!!
If I touch the car keys they are squealing with anticipation, but, if I go upstairs first and put tidy clothes on then touch the car keys they go and wait by the pigs ear cupboard!!!
Mine know:
sit, stand, down, come, wait, stay, yes, no, upstairs, kitchen, bed, toy, fetch, garden, mummy, grandad, delilah and zorro, teabag(the cat), cat, speak, food, car.....and their favourite word is BISCUIT :D

Apart from the usual "sit, stay, steady" command sort of words, Nips knows the names of different toys, squeaker, ball etc. His vocabulary also includes "see it off", "where's the weasel?" "watch those teeth", "postino" - this latter because we are pretentious enough to try and get him learning Italian - and the names of the regular visitors to the house. He is also under no illusion about who the "utter little git" is in this house ;)

Merlin knows most training, (basic) words, sit, down, stay, paw etc. Both my dogs know tiny sentances, if i say would you like a treat, biscuit, chew, they sit by the cupboard where they live. sometimes I only get out would you like and they are off. OH says, put your shoes on, For collars for a walk and they both sit by the door waiting. When we are out and I spot their mates, i only have to say jake, lady, chance, ochie etc and Merlin stops and scans the field, which could have 10 + dogs on it and run to the correct one. He also knows nanny, grandma and Teresa (my sis) who he absolutely adores to the point of crying when you say it then when he sees her. He also responds to no less than 8 nicknames. Bless him. Angel knows a few but is very new so is just learning now.
Molly is also learning spainish! My boyfriends son is 13 & has decided to teach spainish as he learns it at school! She knows sit & biscuit so far!
