Did anyone see what happened at Boston show
The Chow puppy won the puppy of the year stakes on day 1 and also won 1 of the 2 puppys to return on 2nd day. On the second day the puppy of the year class was done but the final between the 2 dogs  1 from each day was with held untill after Best in show and Best Puppy in show to able the chow to go into best puppy in show, and not risk being beaten in the stakes fina.  Surley this was against K C rules as the P O T Y stakes was in the schedule before B I S, as it was, the chow did win best puppy in show , and then went on to win best P O T Y  which gave the other dog an unfair [position as they entered the ring the judge knowing it had just gone best puppy  in show is this fair.

If I were the owner of the chow puppy I would have been very pleased with the show committee :)

I've never known that to happen before, and like others I'm sure, I've had to withdraw from Champion or Veteran stakes when I've went BOB

As far as I'm aware, the only order a judge has to follow is the one in their judging book.  If it was the same judge doing BPIS and the POTY Stakes and the Stakes were before the BPIS in the judging book then they'd have to do the Stakes first.  As it was a different judge then the committee has the right to alter the judging order.

I would imagine that as this is Boston's first Ch show they would be very careful that they didn't infringe any KC rulings.  The only thing I would see as unfair (but not against any rules) would be having to wait all day with a puppy getting more and more tired, but then they'd have to do this for BPIS anyway.

I thought the rule was that BPIS could not be entered in any subsequent competition at that show?

Actually I think you're right.  It's years since I was Secretary of a Club and I have to say I haven't kept up to date with the rules for running shows and I tend not to enter more than one class with a puppy.

It remains to be seen as to whether the KC pick up on this (if this is what happened).

Ito think that rule does still apply,  which means the chow should have withdrawn from the final of the stakes as for order of the judging  she had picked her dog from the second day' judging well before B I S  just left the 2 final dogs  over the 2 days  untill after the BPIS which was after BIS which means that something was amiss,  the KC will be none the wiser from paper work  unless a field officer was watching  you do not have to withdraw from stakes but you risk being beaten and that would stop you going in for BIS so most people do, and if this is not done via secretary before the event  and you just dont go in you still  would be clased as a beaten dog anyway
