I have tried all sorts with my dog daws, who, just wont go for a bone, natural,or the made up variety,I have just given him a pedigree jumbo bone and he licked it and left it,(other dog peg,ate hers in record time, but is on steroids so,always hungry)
He always got a pigs ear from the market on a saturday, but gone off them too.
He always eats dinner,no problems,I would like him to chew for the sake of his teeth, they are ok no probs just yet, but I cant tempt him,any ideas? or do you think perhaps he just doesn't like them.
The only exception is,if he can drag a chicken carcass out of the bin, which obviously gets taken away.

If he's partial to a chicken carcass have you tried him on raw chicken wings or thighs? They're great for cleaning teeth :)

Ashlee,
My dogs like the kong products which are designed to help clean the teeth. There's one which is shaped like a cut off cylinder. It has a hole down the center and ridges along the sides. I stuff the center and the ridges with low fat cheese, but anything moist enough to shmush into the grooves would work just as well. It's not going to get hard tartar off the teeth, but it should help.
If you are trying to get tartar off the teeth try Plaque off. Absolutely fantastic, you just had a scoopful to their dinner. Has cleaned up my dogs a treat and am even now trying it on the cats.

Your not going to believe this but,I am so glad daws did not eat the bone I gave him, as peg ate hers in record time, but then,I was up from 10 to 4 in the morning with a very sick dog.
Rushed to vets at 9.oo as they opened ,no obstruction thank god, just couldn't tolerate the jumbo bone I had given her, poor peg was sick 15 times, starved of course, and then very light food and now back to normal, but what a lesson.
Thanks for your replies,I will give them all a try,
Ash x

Mine have a raw diet,so eat raw chicken carcasses, only bones I dont give are weight bearing beef bones, but when I did put my dog onto raw he would not touch it ,it took 3 days of offering nothing else before he tried it,now he wouldnt eat anything else.Everyone assumes dogs love raw meat and bones but it took my boy 3 days before he would even try it
