I am hoping your Friends bitch has been Hip Scored and Eye tested by specialists on the VA/KC panel, as a once over by a GP vet is not enough to prove her genetic health.

She could have a silent season, or she could have some kind of infection which often will confuse a dog into thinking a bitch is in season.

A trip to the Vet would be in order if she is not due in season.

If her season is so close it looks possible that she is starting, has she done the swab test a little tissue dabbed on her vulva to see if there is a discolourtion as well as silent seasons some bitches are very light, on wooden and laminent flooring it is easy to spot even the tiniest blood spots but if your friend has a dark carpet it may not be noticeable especially if the bitches vulva has not swollen up.

As already said  it may be a possible infection, but with her season being so close anyway it is the most likely reason.
