I rescued it from the floor - it was dirty, skin was half off, it had been knawed and nibbled! Now this was a 5kg gammon, and I had no intention of chucking it out soooo - I washed it throughly, put it back into the stock pan, poured in 1 litre of vintage cider - and simmered it for 20mins per 500g. After that, I took it out, cut off the obviously chewy bits, removed rest of skin, slavered honey over the skin & cut a diamond pattern in it - roasted it for 40 mins ......and until now, NO-ONE knew a thing about it :D :D :D They all raved about it - as usual.
hubby still got shepherds pie for dinner :D
