Think about it , we have just got over the festive season and have we had a good time  Yes most of us have BUT there are a people that haven't because they were gave or were given puppies for Christmas

So who is left to sort the problem out :confused:

Rescue Centres and 'Muppets' like me or loving, caring people as I would rather be called that will take them in and then find them a new home :)

We collected our new pup yesterday - wasn't really expecting him yet!! I rang Harveys breeder on Friday to ask if she had any litters planned for 2007 as we wanted a black and tan boy (CKCS)...........she had one 14 weeks old!! She ran two on as couldn't decide which to keep but made up her mind just before Christmas but no way was she letting him go then, anyway we went to have a look at him and the rest is history! We took him out today for the first time - I'm trying to squash a lot of socialising in as we have missed out on 6 weeks together. By the time we got home I was fed up with people coming over assuming I got a puppy for Christmas:rolleyes:
Its so, so sad:mad:So many people just don't realise the time and devotion involved with puppy owning do they ..........I am kn@ckered! Like a zombie as I type and its not my first time!! It happened with my old neighbours last Christmas, they got an adorable GSD pup on Christmas Eve for their 6 year old boy.....they only kept her for about 6 weeks:mad: Thank goodness for the people like you Lucy who are there to pick up the peices but its such a pity that the so called 'breeders' who plan these christmas litters get away with it.

I do hope your not too busy and that lots of the christmas pups land on their paws in forever, happy homes.

Sad but true  my first dog was an old springer cross, she came to us because she was starting to get age-related health issues (she was 8 then and fat), and they simply didn't want to pay for her anymore.

Of course nature being what it is it sometimes happens that a litter is born so that pups are ready a little before or after Christmas.

I know most breeders will not allow the pups to go to homes over Christmas, and will keep them longer to ensure they go when people can concentrate on them.

To be honest as these breeders would always take a pups back, it is in their best interest to only home a pup where they feel there is the maximum chance of the home working out well.

Maybe all breeders should by law be responsible for the pups they breed say for the first 6 months, though morally this should be for life.  Maybe when the puppy farmer or supermarket had to take back untrained pups well past the cute stage they wouldn't feel to keen to stay in the puppy selling and breeding game.

It doesn't bare thinking about what would happen to the pups thereon though does it :-(

The dogs our breed rescue are mainly produced by people who count on the bleeding hearts to pick up the pieces, so they can continue to churn out badly bred pups and sell to unsuitable homes.

That's partly why I'm breeding on this next season, as if I waited till the next one the puppies would be ready to go at Christmas and I'm not doing that! :-(
