Does anyone know anything about this breed?  Was trawling the net for Rhodesian Ridgebacks and came across these - www.thairidgeback.co.uk/gallery.htm

They arn't recognised by the KC and wondered how you get a breed standard etc.  I saw some for sale a while ago and didn't know what they were and they were selling for £1000 then

I've never heard of them, but on reading the first page of the website I'm not impressed...

Best stick to Rhodesian Ridgebacks I think :)

I  think that if this breed gets better known and the quantity of these dogs increase, there may be problems.  I can just see them as a thugs 'must have' dog and given the need for early socialisation and firm handling I fear that they may be a future 'devil dog' - as labelled by the press I hasten to add.

That would be my worry - just as crosses would emerge.  I've seen quite a lot of rhodiesian crosses lately (often with staffs or rotties) and these are more domesticated, as I understand it, than thais.  Beautiful dogs though.

There is a MSN group for thai ridgebacks with maany helpful people from the country of origin, uk and other parts of the world.  I believe if I remeber correctly there is also a small club in the uk, although very small will bring all those who own, or are interested in thai ridgebacks. 

They are a powerful breed but like ANY breed could be dangerous with inncorrect breeding and a poor upbringing.

In my experiance of thai ridgebacks (ie one I lived with for 10 days) he was fine, friendly, socible (lived with 6 other dogs) and had no problems, he is also a rescue.

If you go to the FCI website you may find an English version of the standard there. Not recognised in the UK.

I agree they are stunning - pardon my naievety but are those ears natural or have they been 'adapted' in any way to stick up so proudly?

I saw some Thai ridgebacks some years ago when I was in Thailand.  I don't remember their ears looking quite like that though.

Hmm selling for a thousand before they are even recognised :rolleyes:  Thank God that my breed, Bracco's and Koiker people brought them in and sold them for a reasonable price and not the stupid prices that many import breeds are.  supposedly the Import Register was brought in to stop high prices etc but it doesn't seem to have done that, look at the DDB's, Coton de Tulier (cant spell today?).
