Hi and happy new year to all on the forum,
I will be moving house sometime in the next month - still awaiting a date and wondered if anyone could give me some advise on how make the housemove as stress free as possible for my dog.  I have moved with cats before and know to leave them in for a while etc, but this being my first dog and only 2nd house move I am not sure how she is going to react, and what to expect.
Thanks

I have moved 5 times in past 8 years. first 3 times with just Gemma, last time with Gemma and Beano, and all times they settled in no problem. I found they got a bit stressed while I was moving, but I did always have them with me,and they were watching all the furniture being moved, but once all my own furniture was in the house they were fine.
Might be an idea to either kennel the dog or take it to a friend so that it is out of the way from the stress of the moving, and get it back once all the furniture is in the house.
Another bit of advice, prey you dont have to have an emergancy spey on an old bitch 5 days before you move, then things are even worse but thats another story!!!!
I wouldnt worry too much, dogs are very adaptable :)
Good luck with the move/
Lea :)

I was lucky when I moved to Spain because the animal transporters came and collected my dogs and cats before the removal men arrived.  However my daughter's dogs, who were not moving with me, were taken to her friend's house for the day as not only would they have been in the way of the removal men stomping all over the house, but they (the dogs) would have found it terribly stressful.  Also, I would have worried that they would escape whilst the men were moving the furniture and all the doors were left open.  If you can't leave your dog with a friend then just make sure it is either crated or kept on a lead the whole time and try to offer plenty of calm reassurance.  Once in the new house with all the familiar furniture the dog should settle quickly.
