I had to go out for a short while today and when I came back one of my girls,Georgia, was not right.

She was lying in her usual place under the coffee table but was crying and was reluctant to move. I fed all the others and offered her food,with Metacam in it, which she ate. She seems to be sore when she stretches and cries when she moves. At the moment she is lying quietly in a crate with the door closed over, not shut and seems to be at peace.

She slipped yesterday but seemed fine after it but there was an awful thunder storm while I was out and I wondered if she had maybe been afraid and was trying to hide and hurt herself again.

Do you think it sounds muscular or maybe something else? She ate her tea heartily and has a sausage and 2 chews after it.

Dogs don't always go off their food, I heard of one who heartely ate with a broken foot!!:eek, so although going off food is a sign of many illnesses it is not for all problems.

Dogs will hide their pain if possible, but one of the sure signs is to go off to a quiet place, which is probably why she is happy to sit in the crate with the door closed to feel safe whilst she heals.

You seem to feel she is hurt when she stretches, so there is obviously a problem. Have you gently run your hands around her underside to see whether she cries when touched. She may at a guess have a cracked rib, but it is only a guess or perhaps muscular as suggested, or it could be a stomach ache?????? Or a choice of many other things.

To be honest if she seems to be in pain, she needs a vet to check her over, the worst night and day tomorrow I know, but if she is still not right by morning, it is best to check her out.

As you're giving her metacam is this something she is on any way - If the metacam is something you've had left over from something else as personally I wouldn't be giving it without being clearer about what is wrong or consulting a vet first.

Hi,

She has not been crying since the episode yesterday. She is getting up to go out but she seems to be a bit stiff.  SHe was on Metacam a few weeks ago for lameness in one of her legs and I have only given her the one dose. She is a very difficult girl to work out as,unlike the norm in my breed, she is very calm and quiet.

I am watching her closely and will call the vet if there is any change in her.
